Catch a wave, Mom!

Posted in Daily moments

Sorry it's been a while since I've updated here.  What have we been up to?  Here's a little visual sampler:

FLYING!!!!  Super-kid!!

I have to credit my friend's husband Ryan with super photography skills in capturing those shots recently in a Dad-kid outing to White Plains, a renowned surf spot.  The Dads seemed to gather that throwing kids was much more fun than using all their efforts to catch a wave.  The moms hung back and had some precious chat time.  And then set up for a little 3 year old party.  Oh, and I got my hair chopped.  A good five inches.  I almost went bob-length but mair hairdresser Chip was wiser than to endorse that.  I'm glad he didn't let me do it.

Our baby Suza isn't the baby any more.

Do you ever feel like as a mom you're the facilitator of all the fun, but then settle back and witness from the sidelines?  I mean, it is enjoyable to watch our kids and families.  Truth be told, sometimes I fight the grumbles and sometimes I'm able to serve in fun and joy as I pack the sandwiches, load towels, suits, picnic gear, cooler, feed the baby and get the gang loaded up with their essentials--and not leave the house in a wake of chaos.  Family fun takes effort, doesn't it?!  Of course it's all worth it.  And then I hang back in the name of relaxing and don't go in the water or DO the thing we've gone to do.  So this weekend I DID the fun.  I went boogie boarding.  I know.. it's like no big deal.  So what, right?  (you guys are probably all much more adventuresome than I am...)  But how much more fun it actually was!!  And my kids were all grinning seeing mom take the waves not just sitting in a chair witnessing the event.   Who knows, maybe acting like a kid will be my new aerobic regimen.  My arms are sore today!  (And no, I don't have a picture for that.  Who takes pictures of Mom?)

Sep. 10, 2007 - Too funny

My DH and I were talking the other night and I told him that sometimes I just feel like a cruise director. I plan all that stuff that goes on in our family, make sure it's all operating right and everyone will enjoy it, then when the time comes, everyone does enjoy it, but I'm too tired to do anything. LOL. So I know how you feel about setting up all the 'fun'.

You go girl with the boogie boarding. Not many people can say they can do that.. let alone in Hawaii. :-)

Love the pictures too. Great shots!

Well I count myself as pretty fun (except hugely high heights) but I for one have never boogie boarded.....
and yes it's WAY cool.

I looked at the flying kid picture and couldn't figure out how those kids got so high! Are the dads like amazingly buff to launch them so high? I mean, off of a boat my man flung kids pretty high, but from the sand?

I'm amazed and baffled.

Cute hair btw....not mommy-ish at all. (and that tends to be my favorite compliment, so I'll give it)

I have to say I don't even know what Boogie boarding IS!! Is it surfing on a shorter board?? You MUST get a photo next time!
The most kid-like fun I've had in the last few weeks was jumping off the highdive (not recommended for BF moms! Ouch!) and letting Bette "push" me through the fountains in my church clothes! I think I earned some cool mom points there...
It's fun to have fun, huh?

You have a well-developed sense of adventure, my friend. You're not fooling me! I recall stories of you riding down full staircases on bikes, hiking in backcountry, water skiing, tubing, and I'm sure there's other extreme sports in there I haven't mentioned. It's good to keep having those fun times with the kiddos, though. You don't want them to start thinking mom is predictable and boring...gotta keep them on their toes!

When I was little I LOVED it when my dad would launch me into the air. There was the whole fear and excitement mix--so fun!

Great haircut! Thanks for the compliment. My mom says my new do helps me look more my age. :) I'm sure the braces don't help anything either.

Miss you, friend!

Your hair looks so cute! I just changed my avatar to reflect more closely how I currently look (got tired of looking at short-haired Kate - that was just a phase!) I want to start wearing headbands again - I've seen them in the Nordstrom catalog - that must mean they are in vogue again!

Glad you had fun hanging ten (does that term also apply to boogie boards?) Good for you! It's much more fun to join in - I do, most of the time. Great way to fit exercise into your day. Throwing kids into the air might be better than lifting weights.

Surf's Up!
