Happy New Year Everybody!!

I don't think I've ever lived anywhere where people are such backyard/ driveway fireworks fanatics.  They've been going off all day long and are sounding solid here at 11PM.  My theory is that Hawaiians don't spend as much money on inter-state vacation travel, so they go all out on fireworks.  People here light fireworks on just about every holiday and for several days leading up to a holiday.  Funny thing, we didn't stay up to watch "the ball drop" on TV --it happened for us at 8 PM tonight!  After we got home from playing games and having fun, I sat out on our hammock with Micah and Connor and we asked each other our New Year's resolutions while watching the various sparkles over the town and their reflection on the canal water.  It was a gentle and sweet moment together cuddling under the blanket.

Here are some of my goals for the new year...

1.  Know God better this year than I did last year.

2.  Be more patient with the little things in life that don't matter in the long run.

It's your turn...what are some of yours?

1. To listen to God in EVERYTHING!
2. To be a team player in my marriage and family.
3. To be intentional about our life together and not just live by the seat of my pants! LOL!!!
4. To maintain a living environment that allows creativity and spontanaity because we are in control of all the other areas.
5. To spend time with my kids that is more than quantity...that is quality as well.

I want to let go of 'things' and leave my hands empty so HE can fill them with what He wants.

Jan. 1, 2008 - New Years!

What a great picture of you and your sons cuddled up watching the sky. Those are the moments that "stick." I also loved reading, a while back, about Josh's night time mission to the sinking vessel. The Navy is truly NOT just a job!

My New Years resolution is to "work smart," something my dad has "preached" about before. I work hard and pretty steadily all day, but I want to focus on working smarter and more efficiently. To this end, I am doing the Teri Maxwell Managers of Their Homes workbook and David has been giving me some times to ramble off to Starbucks and plan during his winter time off.

I bet you could offer some great tips on how to "work smart, how to layer activities so as to get more done and sooner. Any tips? Maybe you could blog about how you layer activities for you and the kids during the day!

I want to become a real good and thoughtful steward of our belongings and lighten my load of anything that we do not need to be doing or keeping. I want to read the Bible from start to finish again.
Blessings,

I think my resolutions could come under two words my husband uses: Live Deliberately. This would cover weight, decluttering, living simply, all of that!
Blessings,

Our kids were so disappointed when we moved to Texas to find out that fireworks are illegal in our county. Bummer!

My main goal is similar to yours...to know the LORD more deeply by the end of the year than I do right now.

I'm not good with resolutions. Making them isn't hard, it's the follow through. Still, I manage to come up with a whole list one is To Rise Early, another is To Be in the Word EVERY Day, then of course, I'd love to lose weight, start exercising, Walk in the Spirit more consistently and radiate the fruits of the Spirit,...
Enjoy the fireworks!
P.S. You'll be so proud of me, I'm reading my first Bronte book: Jane Eyre! :)

Jan. 5, 2008 - Happy New Year To You, Too!

Thank you so much for your sweet comments and encouragement! My life has been so hectic and stressful since Thanksgiving - but the Lord has been holding me steady each and every day. My sweet husband is slowly improving each day and I am so thankful the surgery is behind us. I want to move on with life - I don't really have any resolutions in mind, just to take each day at a time and give God the glory.

I love fireworks, too. People here set off illegal aerial fireworks that they get in Washington across the river. We just enjoy them from our window. And the ships on the river blow their horns at midnight. It gets noisy for awhile but it's fun. We shared a bottle of sparkling cider - the champagne in the fridge is for when Todd is off the pain meds!

May the Lord bless you in 2008!
Kate
