Welcome new friends & Visitors...
|
First of all, I haven't gotten my edition of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, but I'm excited to supposedly have gotten a little "day in the life" type article published in this spring edition, which hasn't yet made it to my Hawaiian mailbox. So to those who've stumbled across me through the article and are visiting for the first time, I want to wish a warm "Aloha!" and welcome to Painting the Memories of Home.
My original purpose of the blog was to record our days for friends and family, and hopefully encourage other mothers and home schoolers on the often arduous path of mother-teacher-hood. Anyone who knows our family, knows that each day is not without a myriad of challenges and elements of chaos. So if I painted an overly idyllic portrait of our home school day, know that we have to correct and train and "bear with one another" just like everyone else amidst mistakes, messes and well...just LIFE!
I started this blog in February of 2006 with a debut entry on creating memories in the home...at that time we were enjoying life rural Ohio and had five children. Now the military has us in Hawaii and a sixth has joined the mix.
In regards to home schooling, I have come through waves of doubt and found so much encouragement here at HSB. I chronicled my story of discovering home schooling here, here, and here.
So that brings you up to speed on on us...but the latest is the hair saga, triggered by my three year old's shearing of her own head. (see previous posts) And I confessed to somehow jumping on the hair cutting band-wagon and having an impulsive week of hair changes myself. I regret most of everything I've done to my hair this week, but what's done is done, and I can't whine about it. It felt therapeutic to change. But I don't love the result right now. Oh well. Hair's hair. The tricky thing about hair styling here in Hawaii is that there is so much humidity in the air that no matter how much I flat iron or style it in the bathroom, my hair just absorbes the moisture in the air and poofs out.

With much aloha,
Christa

How exciting to be published! :) Alas, I've allowed my subscription to lapse! I didn't realize you started blogging at the same time as I did. You were one of my very first friends!
I'm so glad you posted pictures. I understand the hair woes, I've had mushroom issues with bobs myself, but your bob looks beautiful! Truly! And even if it didn't, you can't do anything to mess up your smile. :) God got it just right!
I've missed you, friend!

I hope you have been doing well, enjoying all that God is and does for you! It has been so long since I've commented. I just thought I'd catch up real quick. I have no time as usual, just want to say hello. ...and congratulations on being published. I've always thought you had something to say, that's why I like reading your blog. :)

I just got my magazine the other day and was surprised and so happy to see you in there! YOU GO GIRL!! What a great article!
As for the hair issue. I am so there with you on the poofy stuff. I try to buy hair products - styling gel and wax- that is not WATER based. If it's water based it's soaks up the humidity. If I get good stuff at the hair salon, I just use little bits to go long ways. It seems to help here in the FL humidity.
Enjoy the new found attention. You deserve it :-)

How totally cool that you're published. You deserve it. I have not read the current issue though, so we'll see if I can get my hands on one.
and love the hair. You look young and perky.

So great to be a published author! I'm so proud of you. I think your hair looks great, though I know the remorse of a haircut you don't like. At least it grows, right?
And, I cannot believe how much Charis looks like Suza when I met her!!!! WOW!
Thanks for your encouraging comment on my blog. Who better to know about waiting for a baby to arrive than a mother of 6? It's Wednesday night and I've only had cramps and inconsistent contractions. Enough to be annoying, but not progress to full labor. :(
Please pray that we have this baby before my mom has to go back home! It has been so nice to have her here!!!

I think it looks really good. I have the opposite-- frizzies in the winter in Ohio and flat hair in the humidity in the summer. Hair is indeed a tricky thing.

First of all, just wanted to say your hair looks really cute! I know the feeling of "what did I do?!?" The beautiful thing is it grows back and when you want to feel "crazy" again, it's there waiting to be snipped!
Secondly, congrats on a wonderful article in TOS! I was so excited to see one of my friends staring back at me in a magazine! The article was truly wonderful and you should be proud! I can't wait to show my husband....look...one of my blogger friends!
