Aug. 15, 2006~ I love Math Manipulatives ! ~
I want to share some manipulatives that we have found and LOVE I am a kenistetic learner and I have at least one if not more of those kinds of learners. I also REALLY belive that in the early years of learning it is best to learn in a "concrete way". The more hands on ....the BETTER. I guess that is also why I LOVE ...Math-U-See curriculum too. These Wrap-Ups are sooooo neat. Go check them out at http://www.learningwrapups.com/. The wrap ups are so neat because they are self corecting and the child just knows to try again. I have my boys work on the ones they need to just before they do their math assignments. They have Wrap-Ups for addition, subtraction, mutiplication, division, and fractions. I think I just found some for pre -Algebra.( I will let you know if I actually did. ) They are GREAT math drills and its something that kids like to do too. Plus the Mad Math Game is a fun way to use 2 to 4 people to reinforce their math skills, it's a fun game.
I love wrap ups, they are a very low tech helper. Ive been looking in to Math U See. We've been using Singapore Math, but we need to make it more concrete. My boys really need to see what's going on!
BTW - that helicopter ride must have been a blast!!
Enjoy your day
Kathleen
I do have one set of the wrap-ups! I think they are the addition ones (green). I should pull those out, and maybe I will pick up a couple more sets today when I am in town. Thank you for reminding me of them!
I will also check out the game. I want something fun to play with them that reinforces their math. I am also thinking about looking into MUS for the younger kids. Is there a lot of hands on for mom to do? Having 6 kids, I don't have a lot of time to work individually with each one daily, so I am wondering how much I will have to be involved with MUS.
Hey there! Yes, everybody I know loves the wrap-ups. I've GOT to get some, I just keep putting it off but I know the kids would love using them on our trips. Thanks for the nudge.
We're planning on using Math-U-See too- I watched the demo DVD and was sold on it. He explained things that I never even understood in school and they made sense! I've seen the wrap-ups in catalogues and will have to check them out.
And the helicoptor ride- what fun! and what a special memory and experience for your boys. We were blessed to go up in a helicoptor when Peregrine was almost two and he loved and talked about it for months afterward. It was a bit scary at first, but very fun.
Blessings,
Rebeca
I liked them because they were quiet! My sister-in-law bought a very cool electronic gadget that quizzed the kids on math facts, but one can only stand "Good Job!", "Way to go!", or "Not Quite!", so many times before one wants to chuck very cool electronic gadget out of the van window!
Thanks for the great advice!....I will be visiting the wrapup site shortly! My kids and I LOVE Maths......so any sort of "mathsee-game" we thoroughly enjoy!
Maybe you can help with advice on my latest post? The one about curriculums.Have a look
Loved your blog!

I love math manipulatives too! Having a house full of boys, and they are all so hands on, this has helped immensely! Well I finally posted today a little schedule of a day. Things have been super busy with starting to prepare for hsing and sports, but I am gonna slow down in an another week. I am looking forward to that!
Those math games are great.....we just got our Math U See curriculum, and the kids are doing really well. We haven't actually started school yet, but we're brushing up on the Alpha so that the kids will do better in Beta, and Gamma. We start the day after Labor Day. I'm nervous, overwhelmed, but excited too. I'm hoping that things will go well for us this year. I hope you're doing well....have a great evening....
Hi, these math wrap ups look really neat. I'm going to have to check them out some more. My son really loves hands on stuff so that might be something really great for him. By the way I'm glad to have come across a fellow canadians blog. I'm in BC to on Vancouver Island : )
I've seen those in catalogs but never heard a review before so thank you. My kids are supposed to do drills before their math but sometimes the flashcards are a bit boring. This would help so I'm going to look into that site.
btw I want to send your box out today, can you email me with your address please?
