Sep. 12, 2006~ Learning to be Content and having Faith in God's Provisions ~
Oh how the Lord has been teaching me this lesson over the years. I love how much I have gleaned from Sally Clarkson's book... Seasons of a Mother's Heart . She say's things so well like " ... happiness is not found in getting what you want, but rather in giving up my expectations of getting what I want. I don't like facing the truth that living in a fallen world means that life will never be as perfect as I want it to be ! But that is a part of living between the ideals and realities. I have come to realize, with much struggle, that I will spend the better part of my life adjusting my expectations to lifes limitaions, rather than having my expectations filled. Yet that is the first step on the road to true contentedness- learning to to accept those limitations as a normal part of this life."
I have been learning to give more and more over to God and letting Him be in control of the details in my life. For example finances, family relationship issues, my " House that God built".
When it comes to finances we need to have faith no matter what our situation is if in plenty or in need ( like Paul said ) we NEED to be content. If we have little we need to belive and pray that God will give "back door provisions " and not to worry and give it up to the Lord continually. If we are in plenty we need to make sure we are spreading God's blessings around and not hoard what God has given us. Now even when we think we don't have much to give we need to give what we can like the Woman with the two coins. If we do this God honors and blesses a cheerful giver. I have seen this time and time again and when I have let go and gave where God prompted me to. He always gave back in more ways than I ever expected. But we need to be like the Isrealite's in the time of Moses and to have faith that... " the Lord will provide" in the calling he has called us to. He WILL provide in our lives like he provided ...a way , food, water , and etc. like he did for God's people in the days of old. I know that we really don't need things like Charter Schools or DL programs to provide finances for us. We can have faith the Lord WILL provide. He has not called us live under man's overseeings but... the Lords. We shouldn't go back to Egypt when we can claim the Promise Land and live under the Lord's guidance, provision, and His ways (not in the world's ways and teachings ).
I say all this with love and conviction. I am living proof of what I am saying. We are not a family with lots of wealth in the Worlds eyes but God has been so faithful to us. He has provided time and time again and I want those who question to take a leap of faith in the Lord. He will catch you ! Don't worry.
I have struggled with being content for a long time. I would pray and pray ~ I thought God wasn't answering. Then God opened my eyes to the truth. I used to love to go to home shows and read house floor plan books. I was always able to find something bigger and better. I was creating an environment that made contentment almost impossibele.
I still struggle, but I have learned that when I want to see a cozy home, I look at my own (when it is de-cluttered it is rather quaint). I have learned that I can't have more things than I have storage for and except for books, I have been accepting this gracefully. Thanks for sharing your wisdom ~
Another great post! I totally agree, again, with you! You must have faith in ALL things, money too. God blesses those who have faith, not just with money but in so many ways. Give freely and be thankful for what you have, such a good and wonderful reminder.
I just love your blog!! I have been hitting the "random blog" key and ran across yours. I too have 4 boys. What a blessing your blog was to me. It is so encouraging and beautiful.
How is your week going? I divided up my friends list, and you are on my schedule for Tuesday night. So you will at least be hearing from me every Tuesday. Whoopee....huh? I'm going to try to get around more, but it's my goal to at least check in with everybody once a week.
This home schooling thing is going to be tougher than I thought. But I like it so far. We made it through our second day today, but I'm wiped, and ready for a good night's sleep. I hope you are having a great week my friend. I'll talk to you again soon.....Love, Kathy
What a wonderful post : ) and I am so glad that you linked to the article about government homeschooling. I really needed that !!
Blessings,

Thanks so much for sharing this!!! If we all could just be content with our lives and stop looking for something "better", just think about how much better our lives would be!!!!!
We are truly blessed to have happened upon you.I know that God brought us together for a specific reason.
You are a wonderful friend and I know that we will remain that way for a lifetime!
Thanks for the encouraging words you always have! I hope that we can meet in real life soon!
Now about your post!
May you keep your contentment always. It is something that we all need and you are blessed that you realize it.
You are such an encouragment to all through your blog! I hope that I can glean from your encouragment and pass it along to all.
It is a great post!
I pray for your family daily and hope things are back to the best! How is the house coming?
Thanks for coming to The Daily Planet, and leaving me a comment!
It is always nice to have people come to your blog! But it is even better when they leave you a comment saying they have been there!
The only thing I can say is "He will catch you" just as you have said! He will never give us more then we can bear! He said so to Cain and that holds until the end! Be Blessed, My SSiC, be Blessed of God! Garo galu vaer (Have a Blessed day!)
Sincerely,
Yes, we have had to take that "step of faith" quite a few times and, like you said, God is faithful and provides... even to overflowing the cup sometimes. At first it is scary, but as we see God fulfilling His promise, it strengthens us and we are able to trust that He will be there for us when we face difficult times again. It is indeed a growing experience. Thanks for sharing!
Also, about the government funding for homeschooling, here in Iowa we have what is known as HSAP (Homeschool Assistance Program). We don't have very many family-run coops here in the state because our public school offers HSAP. They pretty much run the homeschoolers that join, giving them money to buy curriculum with (which they CANNOT buy religious material with), and setting up all activities for the homeschool groups (like field trips, picnics, etc.). They offer so many benefits that seem appealing to homeschoolers that they join up, not realizing that they are no longer considered "homeschoolers" legally (according to HSLDA). Since we don't belong to HSAP, we are pretty much on our own since there are no other coops or support groups in our area. That is why I appreciate HSBlogger since I get my support from others here. :-)
