Sep. 15, 2006~ Narnia has taken over my home ~
My boys and I have been loving Narnia so much I decided to get the Narnia Unit Study by...Diane Pendergraft for our Curriculum this year. I have really liked how it gives a verity of things to do with the book series. It covers the subjects Bible, Arts, History, Language Arts, Science, Critical Thinking, Social Studies, some cooking ( Turkish Delight of course (0: ), some field trip suggestions too. Last Christmas I pooled some Christmas money together that a couple of relatives gave and I bought the
Chronicals of Narnia Dramatised Edition CD audio set. I Highly recommend these. Each one has a introduction by Douglas Gresham (sp?) C.S. Lewis' step son. These are a classic set that kids will listen over and over and over again. I know b/c my boys HAVE. lol. I have been amazed at how God has been speaking to my heart about things that have happened in my spiritual walk threw listening to the stories. Things that Lucy had to learn in Prince Caspian in chapter's 9 What Lucy Saw and Chapter 10 The Return of the Lion. She was the only one that kept seeing Aslan along the path. Aslan was leading her up not down like the others thought they should go. That is just like how God leads us and it seems foolish in the worlds eyes. The others also talked to her like she didn't really see Aslan too.( not having enough faith in God moving ) I have felt like Lucy in the issue of not following into the Charter Schools and my sister's in Christ wouldn't listen to God's leadings not to go that direction and to follow Him. To trust in our Lord and not the world's leadings. To have faith that He is our provider not the government. When Lucy's brothers and sister and the dwarf keep trying to follow what seemed logical instead of Aslan's promptings they got lost and further behind. Sometimes even almost hurt badly. It is parallel to not following our Lord and we get hurt or lost when we don't follow our Lord. Later Aslan calls on Lucy and she is confrounted by not following him even if it ment not to follow the others ( even our brothers and sisters in the Lord ) I found it intresting how when they went down ( the logical way) they were attacted by the enemy sooo they then had to go back up the gorge again like Aslan had shone Lucy to begin with. It's amzing how we can avoid alot of strife if we follow the Lord's leadings instead of man's. Also it was alot more work to walk back up the gorge and get back on track to where they should have been to begin with. ( just like our spiritual walk) I LOVE the part in the story when they are finaly back on the right path and after they ate their meal and feel asleep Lucy wakes from a deep sleep and is lead to talk with Aslan. (page 133 in my book (0: ) As Lucy greets Aslan she says that he is bigger. Aslan replied "... But every year you grow, you will find me bigger." Isn't that sooooo true ! I am finding that God is bigger and more powerful and More AMAZING than I knew before, as I grow older.( and wiser) When Aslan confronts Lucy ( page 137 in my book ) she knows it is true that she should have not gone in any other direction than Aslan's leading. Even if it means "alone". Aslan then asked her to wake her brothers and sister and Trumpkin to tell them that she as seen Him again and to at once to follow Him. He also told her to follow Him even if the others won't. And that she will never be alone b/c with the Aslan ( the Lord ) she will NEVER be alone. She pleads with Aslan to come in and roar and frighten all the enemies away-like last time. Aslans response was.... " It's hard for you, little one but things never happen the same way twice. It has been hard for us all in Narnia before now." Lucy burried her head in his mane to hide from his face. But there must have been magic in his mane. she could feel lion-strength going into her. ( our strength comes from our Lord in times of need) Quite suddenly she sat up. " I'm sorry, Aslan," she said. "I'm ready now." Now you are a lioness," said Aslan ( our strength comes from the Lord and threw Him we can do GREAT things that he has called us to.)
It is funny how I have been feeling that I am not sure what to blog about but each time lately I have asked the Lord what to write and I get a small idea and soon as I start writing I have sooooo much to share. I LOVE God's leadings and letting His Spirit move me .
I wish my boys enjoyed Narnia as much as I did ( and still do). It was one of my favourite books growing up. I read to them the Magician's Nephew and of course The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. They thought it was ok, then we saw the movie and they were totally turned off. I don't get it. I wish I could encourage them more in this area, but I'm lost. Oh well. I'm glad to hear all your boys love it! How's the house coming?

We just watched the movie for the first time this year and we really enjoyed it. I hope you guys have a lot of fun with the unit study approach. I love unit studies and I am doing Konos for the first time this year. It should be a year of some interesting things.
but my 7 yo only likes the movie!! We've read all but the last two. I'm waiting for my life to settle down so that we can read on and finish them! I'm not sure what will spark dd7's interest if it hasn't been sparked thus far. She still likes children's books with pics best. Maybe when I read them to the littles in several years she will like them then. Maybe she will even help with the reading! (What a great thought!).
Last year we listened to the whole series on tape and I found so much spiritual insight as well listening to them. I hadn't read them since my 20's so it was good to be refreshed again. Good stuff there.
And I like your blog more simple really. When the active X music was on it took much longer to upload, so if you want my vote, leave it as is.
After Ron and I got married, one of the first things we did as a family was read out-loud the Chronicles of Narnia. Marissa and I read them again last year. Some of the books were recommended by our Starting Points curriculum, but the rest we just read to hear the whole story. CS Lewis does such a great job of creating pictures of tough faith issues. My favorite is in the first book when the horse, Strawberry, is made into a new creature ~ the winged Fledge. I thought it was a great way to illustrate that we are not just better men, but we are wholly different.
We've been reading these aloud and everytime I read them I glean so much as well. I think that's one of the marks of great literature- that kids can enjoy it and adults can not only enjoy it but become wiser for reading it. My sister is doing the Narnia unit study with her kids this year too. I'm looking forward to hearing about how it goes, as it's something we'll probably do in the future too.
Further up and further in,
