Oct. 13, 2006~ Explorers Co-operative Game ~
I was asked about the game my boy's and nefiew were playing in my post about Thanksgiving time and there time with the cousins. It is called "Explorers " by Co-operative Adventure Games. It took awhile to find the game online but I fianlly found it. I found it a couple of years ago in a homeschool catolog but couldn't find it again. It is a game where everyone works together as a team to accomplish the misson/ voyage. You are on different Explorer routes or Land Explorations of Famous Explorer's of the past, for example Marco Polo, Columbus, or Fransis Drake. They recommend it for ages 12 and up. My two oldest boys and their cousin who is almost 11 REALLY ENJOYED playing this as part of their school this week. It is fun to see my 1ds who has read alot about the voyages of these men and see him share with the younger two what he has read in his G.A. Henty books I really DO recommend this game. It would be great to add to studies that are talking about the Famous Explorer's.
This game is a cooperative game. That means the kids have to work together to make it to the end of the exploration. You have one reader of the log book - it's a job, but most kids want this role. There's a provisions officer, and someone in charge of the money - to pay the crew or buy more provisions, and another who rolls the die and moves the piece (the youngest player can do this easily). The goal is to leave the home port, travel in the steps of that explorer (learning as you go) and make wise decisions about provisions and crew to get safely back to your home port with 10 treasures and without losing all your money. It is an intellectual game, there's no sillyness, but my 3 boys love this game - much like they love to play risk and chess now.
And as I was saying to CanadaGirl, if you want to use it to supplement your current History/Geography lesson, you can make up your own voyages. I was reading today about Ghana and Timbuktu and I think there could be an exciting adventure through Africa - learning African History and geography - but it's not already in the game, we'd have to make up our own log book. -so it's versatile too.
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement on my blog! Ultimately I need to leave everything in the Lord's hands and rely on Him to get me through! I appreciate you stopping by my blog to "check up" on me from time to time!
