Nov. 29, 2006~ Traditions, Snow, Candles, and Curling ~
Fun in the snow
It has been a real Winter Wonderland here in the Nelson area. The roads have been kinda scary. I haven't wanted to go driving. My 1ds wasn't happy with me b/c he couldn'd get to his Curling practice. He( plus my 2ds is not far behind ) is getting quiet serious about getting really good at this sport
My 3ds is now starting to learn how to Curl. His is 8 yo. It has been real fun to watch them learn and enjoy this. I will try to take some pic's of them curling asap. Maybe Thursday afternoon at there next pracitce. If the roads are good enough. But in the mean time they are haveing alot of fun sleding, making snow angles, making their yearly igloo( another tradition ), and my 1ds is even making bike jumps and biking in the snow. Yes you heard me right bike jumps in the snow, lol. He took a good nose dive a couple days ago.
Christmas Crafts
This is our second year of making candles. It is now a Christmas tradition. I think probably every year we will do something different in this craft. It is a fun one to do with older kids. I would reccomend to wait till they are a little older to be involved in the process. But there is one candle you could get little's involved in is chunky votives. I will be getting my kiddo's helping me on this soon and I will get pic's on how to do it. I will take pic's of felted slippers that I am making and fudges that are a old family tradition. ( meaning from when I was a little girl and even one fudge that my grandmother would make.
I will keep up on blogging as much as I can. I have packing and Christmas preperations amongst general life. I hope you all keep checking in on me even though I can't do as much blogging ( I will comment as much as I can ) as I did but it should be better after Jan 6th.
Hi there, thanks for posting the pictures of the beautiful snow and your cute kids! I would love to make candles. What a neat Christmas tradition. Hope all is well with you.
Normally we don't have snow, but somehow the entire coast has been hit by it! It's been a great few days around here. My oldest was outside on his bike too, burning out in the driveway, making snow jumps, having a wonderful time - I'm glad to hear he's not the only one who does things like that!
I had never thought about getting my boys into curling, a sport that I quite enjoyed before I had kids. I'll have to check out the local club, maybe I can get them into it!
Blessings
Kathleen
Your candles are so pretty. Life is getting busy around here too. My husband decided to start a construction project in the basement during the Christmas season... what was he thinking?
No Snow here yet, and I am jumping for Joy it did sort of snow a little last night but I coudl still see green grass in my yard so I am happy, for now anyways
CanadaGirl.......,those candles are so pretty! And that snow is making me envious!I wish, I wish ...............
Wow, those curling stones are heavy!......I had a look at a few of the sites you recomended. Thank you, I feel educated...now I know what curling is!

We don't have any snow here yet!! Thanks GOD!! It has been in the upper 50's - lower 60's!! NICE!! I luv it!! It feels like fall!!
Thanks for coming to The Daily Planet, and leaving me a comment!!
It is always nice to have people come to your blog!! But it is even better when they leave you a comment saying they have been there!!
Look at that snow! We are supposed to be getting some soon. But right now it has been in the 60's which is VERY odd for late Novemeber
Those candles turned out marvolous!
I went on the wild goose chase that you sent me on. ;o)
And I am using that little trick you wrote about for b and d. I have him move his finger towards the letter and if he hits a line first, we make a line with our mouths to make the b and if we hit a circle, we do that with our mouth to make a d! It is working almost 100% I can really see his little mind turning and thinking about it! Thanks for the great tip!
It is so warm here that the children have been wearing shorts for the past couple of days! It is raining now and usually when that clears out the temperature will drop, so maybe we'll have more seasonable weather soon!
I love the candles! How on earth do you make a tree shape?
I haven't started the building yet hopefully in teh spring, in the meantime I am doing minor renovations to use an existing space in our home.
PEI is pretty but last year being our first year here it is the only winter I have experiecned and it was different, we are surrounded by potato fields and it is very windy, I never had to shovel teh driveway otehr than where the plough ploughed and our back yard was covered with sand dunes (ok it was dirty snow but thats what it looke like)
In the third pic down in the craft pics showed a tree mold upside down in a Christmas tin, and with a pencil across the top, and with the wick tied to the pencil. I recommend to google or go to the library to look up books on candle making. It really isn't too hard. I have had alot of fun making them.
Have fun making molded candles and if you do let me come and see your pic's . (0=
What a great tradition to do with your sons! We are setting up our own traditions as well, and enjoying them immensely!
Thanks for the pictures of the snow; I am missing it horribly right now, and am so very grateful for all my blogger friends as they are keeping me supplied with their snow stories and pictures! :)
WOW! They look like they're having fun! Me, not so much of a snow person. I'd rather read a book or do tae-bo. I'm glad we don't have snow yet... just rain.
Those candles are gorgeous! That looks like something my dd would love to do.
I don't drive in the snow at all. When it snows in Alabama, everything is closed anyway so there's no need and I don't drive at all here in Romania. Keep warm and stay safe!
As for our house, we are down to painting the front doors and putting the flooring in, I think. It is taking so long, it seems. Now that we're down to the end, the waiting seems endless. It has been a long process and I will so love for it to be done. For the most part it has been done entirely by two people, so I will give them credit - it is a big job just for two. I will post pics when it is done.
