Dec. 29, 2006~ My entry to Babymakers Contest ~

asked a good question and made a contest out of it. I would recommend to go check it out. If you don't want to participate you might like to hear what others did say in response to her question.
Here is what she said "Why, as Christians, do we celebrate "Christian" holidays? Why don't we celebrate Jewish holidays like Passover? I don't want the answer "Because that was Old Testament.", unless you have scripture to back that up. " I have been thinking what to say about celebrating Christian holidays like Christmas and Easter. I also am starting to Celebrate the Feasts of the Old Testiment and Chanukka . I like to celebrate all of those because they are a teaching opportuntiy for me and my family. I believe they are a spring board to remember what God has done for us. I am considered to be legalistic in somethings that I do. For instance I wear dresses, I am baptised for the forgivness of sins. I also came from a Acceapella church. Sadly I am not now but I love praising the Lord with music in many ways. But I don't feel I need to judge others if they do or do not follow remembering Holy days or God 's miracles. So maybe I didn't really answer the question but I said what I felt prompted in my heart to share. I hope it was good. I pray we can always find truely meaningful ways to remember God's Awesome acts and teachings. Feasts seem to really take root in our hearts and that I believe is why God had us do it.
God Bless my SSiC.
In Him,
-Mary
We do have similar thoughts on the matter. I may change in the years ahead and want to study out the different Jewish holy days. I have a basic working knowledge of them for now.
What happened to your really cool Canadagirl signature?
You said "I am baptised for the forgivness of sins"...does that mean that you were forgiven and then you were baptised or do you think that you have to be baptised to go to heaven?
Does it get to busy celebrating Jewish and Christian holidays?
I think a better question is "Why if you do not believe in Christ do you celebrate His Birthday?" If you are not a Christian Christmas has no meaning to you. These same people would never consider celebrating Chanukah or Kwanzaa or Ramadan. Seems like only "Christian" holidays are up for grabs doesn't it, well, as long as we can take the Christianity out of it first that is.
I am a Jew, I did not grow up in a Jewish home, by my generation our roots had been hidden beneath Catholic Baptism certificates. My Father never knew his Grandmother and Aunt were in Concentration camps in Yugoslavia and his sister finally convinced him.
I am a Christian, I love Jesus and I don't mind if He is called Yeshua, Jesus , Jesu or any other name. His Name is the name above all names and HE knows when I am talking to him no matter which name I use.
Celebrating both can be exhausting. But exhausting in a good way. There is nothing like celebrating God's Word with your kids, grandkids and others. There is Joy in the Lights, Chanukah or Christmas the message is the same Jesus is the Light of the world.
I guess it all comes down to this....
One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. Romans 14:5
If the celebration honors Our God than it is a tradition worth carrying on.
Hi Mary~ I've never known your name! Guess you starter that recently? I've enjoyed catching up with you here. Your blog looks great and the bird pictures are SOO pretty. I love to study birds and would like to capture more of them with my camera.
I'm a little behind on your blogs, but after reading this one, I just wanted to let you know that I also wear dresses, was baptised for the remission of my sins, and still attend an acapella church! And, yes, we are considered by some as legalistic, but it's Christ that we serve... not men. His church is based on His laws. If we don't serve Him, then the church that we are a part of is nothing more than just a social club. Jesus says, "If you love me, keep my commandments". That's good enough for me! :-) Enjoyed your post.
