Apr. 19, 2007~ Planting a garden ~
A large part of what is going on in our schooling other than math, reading, penmenship, is ...gardening. Sense we are now here on the homestead next to my MIL. There is soooooo much going on surrounded around the garden. Tools are being fixed, ground is being tilled and weeded, early seeds are being planted, and transplants are on the plant table. I really wished my digital camera didn't break. I could show you pic's of my little Noah ( he wants me to share that he is NOT little , he's practically 9 yo ) planting his own personal garden in 6 tires. It is really cute. He is taking such pride and care that it warms my heart.
I love that this one fellow who is staying at my MIL's ( he is a WWOOF'er ) is ALWAYS doing neat things like fixing tools ( my kids favorite), or making a tool area, digging up beds, or fixing the rabbit hutch for our Strawberry the rabbit. So between my hubby working on the water line, fixing up the raspberry bushes, tilling the garden and sooooooooo much more. My boys are having a lot to do and think about.
Philip(ds14) is planning to build a shed to park his mountain bike in. He is very gung ho about mountian biking. Now that the snow is gone he is trying to bike whenever he can.
Me ? I am still trying to unpack our house. Monday I got a call saying that my hubby's bible study was wanting to come over and pray for us and bless new house. Some how someone forgot to let us know. But, I was very blessed and was willing to open the doors to welcome them. My boy's and I worked REAL hard to get the upstairs nice and tidy as much as we could. There was still some boxes but they were made nice and neat. One hour before they were to come one of my best friends that was living in Manitoba showed up. They were on their way to their new home on the Coast of BC. It is nice we are not far from the main highway that you travel to go across BC. Because they didn't know that we reinstated our old phone number they didn't know where to call. Boy, was that fun but when it rains it pours around here with activity, lol. The evening was so nice. I loved that our home was prayed over and our family too. I am so thankful for " The House that God Built" but more than that I am soooooooooo thankful for the loving brother's and sister's in Christ that God used to make it happen.
I have to share the book we are reading aloud as a family. If you have boys (or even girls) this is a NEAT book that parallels the bible in a middle ages type setting. It has passed the book test. If you read a page or two and they are saying " don't stop reading" then you know you have a winner. So here it is
I wish I could share more about what we are using for homeschooling but really my sharing about our building the house has been a MAJOR part of our curriculum this year. Yes, I am glad the Life school is REAL school. ( I have a niece that tells me that homeschool isn't real school but her mom and I are trying to let her know otherwise, lol ) I will hopefully be starting some lap books and the Wisdom Unit study from Heart of Wisdom ....REAL soon. And then I can share all about that too.
I posted my thinking award, but I am thinking that of all the thinkers with this award...you are the only one that thought God could build a house, and he did!
Hi Mary,
Thank you for stopping by my place (blog). I have been thinking of you but HSB hasn't been letting me get in very often this week (is that happening with you too?).
A garden - I hope my dh can till ours up this weekend so I can get started with the tubers at least. I was just on Tasha Tudor and Family's web (www.tashatudorandfamily.com) this morning and seeing her garden - I'm ready!
How nice of your church family to come and bless your house & family. May you have many wonderful memories in it.
BTW, the last time I checked botany was still a science. Your kids can learn about that which is observable, measurable, testable and repeatable... so it sounds to me like you are doing a ton of kinesthetic science experiments. I am pretty sure boys learn best when they are moving around.
Our activities tend to rain down us also in bunches on the same day. Some days we just try and keep our head above water.
Also I drown our camera...can't be fixed because it sat in water too long...ugh! I miss being able to take digital pics...I've become very dependant on it to record our daily life.
Take care sweetie, we had friends bless our house and the four corners of our property. Was a wonderful thing...
Hi Mary,
I apologize for not logging in. It seems that if I do, then I loose precious time waiting some more. I appreciate your kind comments this week. I am so weary tonight. I don't want to see the old house ever again, yet I know it sits there with stuff in it and I need the washer and dryer, so I have to go back! I pray I never have to move again. But being here at the new house is wonderful. I am getting it unpacked little by little, between the trips to the old place. Thank you SSiC, for encouraging me along the way. I am glad to hear you are making progress too.
Jenn
We also enjoy gardening. We love eating the fresh vegetables from our own garden. Have fun working in the garden!
Congratulations on your new house and on receiving the thinking blogger award! I love your post about mission work at your house. What a Mighty God we serve! May the Lord bless you and your family with more opportunities to share the Gospel and continue to use you and your house for His glory!
You have two of my favorite things on your blog. First, I love Heart of Wisdom material, great stuff. I have bought about four of their ebooks. Second, you have the supporter of Israel logo. My husband and I are really into supporting Israel by contributing the Christian and Jews groups (helping to fly them home and helping to feed the poor Jewish people). I just had to tell you how my heart jumped with joy to see that your heart similar.
DS really loves growing things too. He, in fact, has a "garden" of dandelions that he cultivates. Why? Because Guiena pigs LOVE dandelion leaves. ;o)
I am always on the look out for good "boy" books. I read a lot of "girly" books growing up but want to pass on the love of books and reading to DS. He's got the love of books, now just to catch the love of reading. He's half way there. He loves being read to, reading himself...not so much.

We have been on a journey of being apart of building "The House that God Built". I have been recording our journey on my blog. Go to my links and you will find it. I know God has a lot more instore for us and we just need to follow where our Lord takes us.
