Jun. 1, 2007~ Show and Tell Friday~ Rail Fence Quilts ~
I have been so blessed this week by my Mom and brother. My mom has been quilting for I think 15 years now. She brought up her latest quilts to show off and this time.... I got one.
Here is a close up
Growing up my Mom would take the time to sew us kids clothes and tried (she had to be really patient with me ) to teach us girls ( I have one sister ) to sew. I did great as long as I had my mom by my side translating the sewing instructions to me. The ability is fine but to understand those pesky instructions was another whole thing.
I enjoy strait sewing. Simple and pretty is what I like to do. I have quilted some simple quilts and I love it. But when you get into sewing things that curve I am all nerves. I really like the Rail Fence Quilt because the pattern is simple but you can really play it up with fabric and it makes it shine.
I made this quilt after I had gone in surgery and had to sit and lay low. I had to fill my time and this is what I hand quilted to stay good. ( I pieced this quilt by machine before my surgery)
This one is called ( you are suppose to name your quilts )
"A Few of my Favorite Things" ( psst Jenn did you see the bird houses ?)

My brother made these dresser knobs out of tree limbs for my 4 boys dressers

Are you going to get tired of me saying this...It's so lovely Mary! You are so blessed to have such a beautiful quilt! The birdhouse fabric is indeed lovely too. I need to find a new word...splendid! How's that? It is splendid! And so are you!
Jenn
Those are beautiful. I do like to quilt, though I'm not real good at it. I do small lap quilts, table runners, wall hangings, things that don't take to much time. I'm working on a log cabin quilt, on and off, right now. But it's machine pieced, and I really like doing hand work. So we'll see how it goes. But I love both of these, they are beautiful. :)

I mada A quilt once upon a time. It was for a doll crib so it was very small. I had so much trouble getting the corners to line up. I ripped and ripped stitches. I finally accepted imperfection (afterall, I was gifting a 3 year old)... I am not sure I had the binding right... and I will never, ever make another quilt (unless perhaps I take a class and someone teaches me the tricks of the trade!)
Today is my first day at your blog, I have read your comments over at Jenn's and Jane's for a while. I am with you on those sewing instructions! I have to have my husband translate for me and he does very well. He sees the parts, I only see the whole. I actually have a sewing project out and am at a stand still until he can help me.
Your quilts are beautiful.
Melissa
Beautiful quilts! And I like the idea for the rustic style dresser.....cool. At least you can sew in a straight line. That's my biggest challenge! Our grandmothers made quilts and afghans, and our moms picked it up to a lesser extent. We are "well-covered" and blessed!

My aunt is an accomplished quilter and we have many of her quilts in our house - 6 of them to be exact. She has done this for all of her neices and nephews of which there are 9 of us. Amazing!!!
Mary, what lovely quilts! You are indeed blessed! My Mom also sews and quilts so much better than I, but I enjoy it and try. I have a quilt project I've been working on forever, it seems. I just have too many other things to do, and have trouble finishing my projects. 8~D
I missed Show & Tell this week because I was in Philadelphia ALL DAY. As in - we left our house at 4:30AM and not back until after 10PM. LOL I'm hoping to blog about it today and then be back for S&T this Friday!
