Aug. 16, 2007~ Homeschool Open House 2007 ~
I am keeping this post on the top of my blog till the drawing for the prizes on August 16th !
Please scroll down to read more recent posts.
This is a very fun part of the year. We get to see what all the thoughts and plans of so many HS parents are planning to do this coming year. Some school year round with small breaks and others take the summers off.
Tiany in a VERY creative way got us all putting our thoughts down in such a motivational way ! A OPEN HOUSE ...with prizes too ! Click on the graphic above to get the details of how you can join the fun.
I am Mary aka Canadagirl and I have been homeschooling my four boys sense the birth of my oldest ...which he turns 15 in October. I can't believe how time has passed.
I also have a (almost) 13 yo,a 9yo, and my caboose will be 7yo in September. So that means I am doing anything from primary grades to High School and all in between.
I hope to be trying out this schedule this year but it isn't set in stone. ( I gave myself a lot of room to be flexible and creative)
My basic skeleton of a schedule is...
7:00-9:00 Personal and Family Bible Study
9:00-12:00 M W F History and Literature
T. & Th. Science
1:00-2:00 Math
2:00-4:00 Life Skills and personal interests
Some of our curriculum favorites...
-Math U See
-Heart of Wisdom
-Barry Stebbings Art Program
-Piano for Life
We tend to school all through the house and outside too. But this year I was blessed with the house we built and we now have a schooling area. For the first time I have a "Learning Room". I still need to get a table for it but we can start using the room now. All my books and supplies finally have a home of their very own.
I like to have my boys not too far when we HS so that way I can be there to answer any questions and keep them on track too. My oldest is becoming more and more independent but I like to have the connection of having him near by. I will be having us do some lap booking this Fall and this will be a great way to having all ages together and learning. I am really looking forward to this.
As for pictures and tips ...please check in on me this coming year and I will share as we go. ( and as I think of things )
Tiany I hope this HS Open House becomes a tradition here at HSB
Thank You Tiany for being our hostess in the HS Open House. (((HUGS)))
Yeah! I love reading about what you do during the day. To me it seems like all you do is blog. (Hee, hee, hee!) And I am so thankful that you make time to visit little old me! Blessings on your upcoming school year. May you reach all your goals and then some!
Jenn
Thank you for the nice open house. I'm trying to decide if I want to do one. I might. I like your schedule. It's always fun reading schedules. Thanks for sharing. :)
JoAnn
Thank you for sharing! :) I have the Kingfisher History Encyclopedia and LOVE it! We did the ancient world last year. It was really interesting, but I'm glad it's almost over. We're just finishing up and then we will move on to the Middle Ages.
Hi there! I like the idea of the Open House, if I can manage the time, I'll join. I'd also like to be part of your Show and Tell this week.
And, you have been tagged! But please don't feel pressure!
Blessings!

1. All right, here are the rules.
2. We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.

As well as your bookmarks. What a blessing to have an artistic talent.

I will blog more as I figure out this mac. I am disappointed because none of the easy html things show up on this computer so making links etc is a pain. I'll figure out something. LOL!
Blessings, my SSIC, Terrill
For the first time in 20 years I will NOT be gathering my homeschooling supplies. I never really let it sink in until I read this post! It feels a little empty, but I think the reality will REALLY sink in when my youngest goes to Running Start the end of September. I DO plan to guide my daughter with her curriculum. But you know what? It's not the same. I'm sad...a little.
Oh...nice camera work on displaying the book covers. How did you do that?
I loved your post Mary, (I always do) :-) I have been so out of it with little one not sleeping. I posted a very simple show n tell mainly because I was going to share it anyway LOL Mine is up!
You know I will be going along your homeschool journey with you this year for sure! Just a blog or phone call away!
I still need to get your button up too! I have been so lazy putting so much time into this Open house!
I'm reading the Heart of Wisdom myself right now. It seems very similar to My Father's World in all the teaching material (from what I have seen so far.)
Have a wonderful year!

love the family pic! Good on you for being so organised. January is my time for that type of planning down this end of the world. Now the hard work is done, enjoy the rest of your summer!
Hi Mary!
Even though I do not homeschool, my heart is with you and the sweet ladies that do. I am glad that you have a room in which to teach, too. I love you stucco home.
Blessings, Mama Karen
Thanks for the peek into your homeschool. Your blog is great, I'm sure I'll visit again. The pics of your garden are really cool. I have 4 boys, too! Have a great year.
Oh I bought the whole HOW kit too.. but instead of feeling confident, I'm freaked out and feeling overwhelmed. The lessons look great, it's the output the boys are supposed to do - I'm thinking I made a huge mistake - that my kids will refuse and.. yikes. I might need some hand holding.
would you consider sharing your phone number with me for support and encouragement? And when are you planning on starting Lesson 1?
I've enjoyed reading about your homeschool. ;o)
How wonderful to have all of your books in one room like that.
Thank you for visiting me!
Happy Homeschooling! *ά*
You put on a vey nice Open House Mary! I feel like I'm right there. Hmmmm, Piano for Life - can you tell me a litt more about that? You know I want to learn Piano - do you teach your boys or can they do it on their own?
Thanks for the peek into your homeschool and your comments on my blog :) I have the HOW book, read it last year and got all excited, but haven't implemented it yet! I need to read it again and see how it fits in with all the other stuff we are doing.
Have a great year!
Love,
Joy

What a beautiful blog! Thanks for sharing your day and schedule! You are very organized and encouraging! You've also been TAGGED! Come join the fun at at http://musings-of-a-mom.blogspot.com/
I love your new learning room!! How I wish I had one, but I only have my youngest to homeschool starting this year for only 2 more years (boo-hoo!), so probably don't really need to worry about a room now. I haven't been in blogging land for awhile, but I'm back and hope you'll come and visit me!! Take care and God bless!!
Bubbebobbie invited me to participate in a tag, and now I tag you. Come by my blog and check out the rules, it's an educational tag. Also don't forget to read my two most recent post "A year of praises" and "Caught off Guard."
Hey I changed my homeschool blog post to clarify the Math U See, and Beautiful Feet stuff. I AM still using Math U See. I loved it. Hubby teaches it for me, cause I stink at math! Talk to you again soon!
I wanted to tell you before I forget, I am reading here and there that a lunar eclipse is suppose to happen August 28th. I will let you know more as I do.
Thanks for my map.

I'm so excited to hear how the HOW Year goes!!! I'm planning to use it myself in the next couple of years, once I get through American History to the present and begin again in the Ancients.
I use the Heart of Wisdom curriculum, too. This will be our third year.
I looked at your schedule and it is very interesting. I'm wondering if you would mind if I asked you some questions about it.
