Aug. 6, 2007~ Homeschool Tag of Eight ( my little twist on it ) ~
1. All right, here are the rules.
2. We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.
3. Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
4. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight
things and post these rules.
5. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged
and list their names. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.
I would like to give a little twist to this b/c it's time everyone is getting ready to start another year of school. I am going to list eight random things about our homeschool.
1- I have been homeschooling my sons for 10 years so this will be our 11th one to come.
2-I started to look into homeschooling because my hubby is a waiter and he worked nights at the time. I wanted my boys to know their Dad and see him on a regular basis and not just two days a week. Plus there were three hs families at the church I went to and I was very impressed with what I saw.
3- I have done each year differently. One year we used Beautiful Feet "History of Science" and really liked it. Another year I tried "Further Up and Further In" unit study and it wasn't a good match for my family. In the early years I was a lot freer in what we did. Last year was a very unusual year and the building of "The House That God Built" was the base of our education. I'm getting ready to start "Adam to Messiah" by Heart of Wisdom. I can't wait to start. I really think we are going to learn about the Old Testament like we have never before.
4-I have always been drawn to Charlotte Mason, Unit Studies, Scrapbooking, Lapbooking Chronological way of studying things and I have found a teaching method that hits them ALL... "Heart of Wisdom Teaching Approach".
5.I am not a organized HS mom. I am trying and trying to get better. "I am a piler who wants to be a filer". Maybe as I try to organize things I can post them. To be held accountable.
6. I am a kenisthetic learner ( a right brained person ) myself and it helps me understand my 2nd ds who is the same way.
7. When I was in 10th grade I learned how I learned. I went from a 1.89 grade average to a 3.5 in 5 months b/c I was finally learning the way that was easiest for me.I found my learning style. I believe we have to strengthen our strengths and work on our weaknesses.
8. One "tip" I have to give to homeschool parents is the way to learn to read is to read. The way to learn to write is to write and so on. The more they do and keep trying they just get better and better at it. I have applied this in my life too ! Blogging has helped with my writing sooooooooooooo much. Also have your child read aloud what they write and see if it "sounds" right. That has helped a lot.

I accept your challenge and will post it in the next few days. I enjoyed reading more about your homeschool. Any advice for me as I prepare to use Beautiful Feet?
Off to the dentist...
Jenn
Ah but my question is ...when Miry Clay does the Twist will she sing "Twistin' the Night Away" or "Let's Twist again Like we didLast Summer"? You know she can't avoid a good sag way into song!
It sounds like you have a great plan for the new year.
Because of Jesus, Bobbie
I too am a 'piler who wants to be a filer'!! A long time ago I heard the advice to only handle a piece of paper once when you bring it into the house; either put it in it's place(filed) or throw it out. I'm working on it!
First , I am a daughter of the King almighty and a
a wife to my Handsome of 17 years. A mom of 4 on the go boys 15, 13, 9, and 7. I grew up in the states but married my Canadian sweetheart and moved up north.
We live in the southern part of British Columbia , Canada on our homestead. We have homeschooled our four boys from birth and plan to go the distance till all four graduate from our homeschool. I teach with a Charlotte Mason style and use the Heart of Wisdom Approach. I love to craft! I am a beader, knitter, x-stitcher, quilter. We have been on a journey of being apart of building "The House that God Built". I have been recording our journey on my blog. Go to my links and you will find it. I know God has a lot more instore for us and we just need to follow where our Lord takes us.
