Aug. 30, 2007~ Name my Snake CONTEST ~
ATTENTION !!! Snake Naming Contest !!!
In honor of wanting to start school off on a FUN note this is my gift to you.
I have been having so much fun with this I thought if you all spread it around I will have a contest!!! In one week on September 6th on my 4th ds's Birthday. I will have my ds draw a snake name out of a hat to win a
BEADED BOOKMARK. I need you to leave me a comment here because I can't rely on my memory. lol.
Have fun with this. Each of your family can give a entry name too.
here is a sample of one
Soooooo spread the word. You can even use this pic for your post.
I have to have a bit of fun today to make my busy load lighter.( STILL canning , I seem to be moving slow. ) A dear SSiC left me this comment...
"You know I have mixed feelings. I love the nostalgia of a fireplace and carrying the wood, etc.
The woodshed just continues to add to the country charm of your home, the House that God Built! That is sooooo cool!
I also think about snakes. I used to have a pet California King Snake until a bad, bad, bad rattlesnake bit me just because I stepped on him. Now I feel as if I will pass out when I see a snake.
Of course up there it probably gets cold enough for the snakes to hibernate by the time you need wood. Please comfort me and say you don't have snakes in Canada! :)"
And my response was... "Hee he. Well Sweet Sister I hate to say... we do. Now, to console your worries I will say I have only see a sweet little garter snake scare me once in awhile. [0; It is funny how he pops out of no where when I least expect it. I don't see him often but I know he is out there. I need to name him maybe Sammy or something. Hey , maybe I will blog about this and get everyone to suggest a name. [0= "
So for some plain old silly fun could you give me some suggestions for my garter snake's name. ( I have to clarify this is just a harmless garter snake. It is NOT poisonous, I promise.)
I hate snakes too. We have had 3 rattlers this year. One was next to the house the others were out on our driveway which is very long, and only one was a baby.
Do you can inside your kitchen or outside? I know it can really heat up your home. And wouldn't you know that canning season is at one of it's heights right when the heat of summer is also.
I hope you canning has been very productive. Take a picture when you are done and let us see the fruits of your labor! Lori G
You're going to name a rattler?! How close are you to the nearest hospital?? Oh my. You're braver than I am.
I know we have rattlers, because a neighbor saw one once. We have this Massassauga (sp?) in Michigan, but it's so shy it's rarely ever seen.
My uncle is a race horse trainer in southern Calif., and he likes to keep Calif. King snakes around the barns because they get rid of the rattlers. The only good use I've heard of for a snake. Actually made me feel good about the Calif King. Can you tell I don't care for them?
We have these Brown Snakes that don't crawl away from you, but wad up and strike if you bother them. I don't like to think of them being in my garden when I'm working there. Garters always scurry away, so they're alright, I guess.

~I can inside. But when it is HOT I prepare the fruit and freeze it till cooler weather comes and THEN I start up canning. Or I wait till cooler days. The last week or two has been cooler so I have been canning.
I like Garret the Garter Snake. Makes him sound kind of Brittish, though. My mom was bit by a snake and ended up in ICU for a week. We don't like snakes here. Well, OK. The boys still like them. *grins*

HI Mary,
I was bitten by a rattlesnake while vacationing in Tucson AZ and this horrible event took a year out of my life. Could I get in touch with the blogger in your post, if she was bitten also, as I would like to compare our "stories?" Garter snakes are okay, but I am petrified of all snakes now.
Blessings to you,
Mama Karen
I'd like to post a show and tell for tomorrow - is this how I let you know? And when should I post it - late Thursday night or Friday morning?

Imagine my delight in seeing that you had visited me this morning! I decided to return the favor since my papers are graded and in the school department I am on top of things (don't ask about the housework department, lol!).
My name suggestion is Serpie the Snake (from the word serpent). I tried getting cute and creative, but it's just not happening this morning, lol!
Okay, I have a couple of suggestions for Celtic music instrumental CD's. First off, you know those music displays in Wal-mart and Target where you can listen to the music before buying the CD? Well, those are great for buying comforting, melodic Celtic tunes. I'm not a huge fan of the brassy, loud Celtic CDs that are out there, so my direction to you will be of the lighter, enjoyable-background-music type CDs. My favorite is a dual CD set I picked up at Target by Lifescapes called "scottish moors" and "emerald isle." "New Celtic Moon" by The Paul Haslem Consort is good, as are "Celtic Nights" and "Celtic Shores," which are part of the Global Tribute series. My first recommendation would be to take a listen in Target or WM though. Hope this helps!
All right, back to regularly scheduled programming. I am so off schedule this week!!! :( Have a wonderful weekend!
Say, Mary, do you have rattlesnakes over where you're at--on the east side of the Cascades? I found a dead rattlesnake up on our homestead in July (North Central WA, by Osooyos), although I've never seen nor heard of one before then. But it means...yep...rattlesnakes live up on our mountain. There are NO poisonous snakes (or bugs for that matter) on the West side, however.
Ok... here it goes... my son says to name the snake: Roco (since he crawls over rocks and looks tough)
My other son says to name it: Oscar
How's that for names. These names come from a couple of boys who name lizards, worms and anything else that crawls!
Regina has a Scarth Street in it's downtown core - part is blocked off as a walking mall....
so let's name him Scarth the Snake.
Moses had to hold a snake up on a stick so the Israelites would not die from the snakebites... they say this is where they get the Medical symbol.. a snake wrapped around a cross.. so, let's call him.. Immunity.. Immunity Snake.
Myles had his own garter snake the other day, I should post it and link it to your contest.
I was going to say Slimy Sam but I have touched a snake before and they are not slimy so I will have to call it Sam the Smooth Serpent. Hows That?
Amy
P.S. Every word starts with s. If you write sss, it looks like the sound that I snake makes!
A name for your pet snake. How about "Peeping Pete", that sound good. Yes, your state has Rattlesnakes. Here is a site to pull it up: http://www.trailcanada.com/photos/wildlife-snakes.asp
In our state we have three types that are venomous, Northern Copperhead,Eastern Cottonmouth & Timber Rattlesnake. We've had copperhead's in our bag's of onions before. Not a pretty site, to grab a onion and almost get bit. But then we've gotten so many types of non-venomous snakes running around too. Put down 'lyme' around the house & it keep those little guys from coming in.
Have fun with your name for the snake.
Blessings,
Debbie
http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/sharity/383201/ There is the link to my post about your contest and my official entry for the "Name the Snake Contest" is Simon!
I cannot believe you have taken my concerns for you and turned it into a fun contest! Just kidding!
However, with that said, I think I should start my own "award" to give out to bloggers. It should be an award for the bratty blog of the month!
I am beginning to realize you have a little bit of the rascally side to you and I am loving it! I cannot believe you are naming KILLER instead of just taking a pistol with some snake shot in it and helping him find a resting place.
After being bit by that rattler...I went out target shooting one day and found these two rattlers mating on the side of the hill. I unloaded an entire magazine of 9mm into those snakes and screamed comments at them that I am sure would have had me institutionalized at the time...Hee hee. So on behalf of all you who HATE snakes, please take note, I have done my part to stop more rattle babies from making an entrance into our world! (oh, oh, great new name for a toy from Hasbro..."It's my rattle baby!" Back to packing...
Blessings to you sis!
