Nov. 29, 2007~ Show and Tell Friday~ Anne of Green Gables ~
It's that time again....
I have to share this because when my Mom and brother came to visit she gave me this video set. When I was 19 yo a year before my hubby and I met I was introduced to Anne of Green Gables for the first time. I feel in love with this story from the very beginning. I at that time started to find out my roots to Prince Edward Island. My Great Grandfather on my Dad's side lived there. Well little did I know that I would move to the Country ( I meant the Country of Canada. I live near the West of Canada and PEI is on on the East Coast of Canada ) where Anne of Green Gables came from ! When I was twenty I met my sweetie. A year and a month later moved to Canada.
This last week the boys and I had a great time watching the movie. It was pretty funny watching my youngest watch the movie. Because he had a hard time handling how dramatic Anne is. He kept running away yelling. lol
Now I want to get the sequel to this set. Thank you mom !!!

Mary this is one of my favorites too! How neat that you actually have a connection to the movies. :-)
Well I am adding something to my blog then I am off to bed, not as early as i had hoped but that's OK. I wont be on here much tomorrow till tomorrow night. I will visit everyone then! :-)
That is so neat and I to love watching the Anne of Green Gables movies :) I always watch them when CBC airs them which has been a couple of years now.
Blessings to you and your family,
Rosina
I've heard a lot about this movie, but have never seen it. I will have to put it on my Library list. Thanks for sharing it with us. How cool that you live in the same area that the movie was filmed.....and in a house that God built to make it even better! ;o)
We love the whole Anne of Green Gables series. My MIL has the first few, and now we have seen the rest with friends on their large-screen tv. All were wonderful, except we didn't care for the last one so much - but another friend said she thought it was the best one. :). I think Amber has requested them for Christmas - we'll see. I am racking my brain right now trying to think of a good S&T to post - still in a fog. Have a great day!
That is to funny about your son running away and yelling. I loved the Christmas cards your sons made. They were so pretty. What a great way to get in several subjects and have fun at the same time.

One of my best childhood memories is coming home from church and watching AG on PBS. It was just my mom and me, we would stay in out slips and cuddle in her bed while we watch the movie. A few years back I found the all 3 on DVD at Sam's Club. My girls and I now make the same memories together. This past summer we watch Tails of Avonlee (Sorry spelled that wrong) through Netflix. Have a blessed day.
Hi Mary, dear! We love Anne here. Grace listened to all the first book on tape and some of the others. Her Aunt gave her a very special doll of Anne, which used to be her Aunt's. We have seen one movie. I need to get the rest via netflix. Those make good winter day movies when you can't go out to play! I hope you have a great day. I am getting ready to start our chores and lessons and then go to the library after PT and celebrate the 6th anniversary of Trevor being released from the hospital after 30 days after his birth. Lots to do!!!

I love Anne of Green Gables too. I never read the books till I was an adult, but I fell in love with them and read them all. I have never seen the movie though - is it as good as the books?
I first read Anne when i was 20 and also fell in love with her stories.
My husband has family on PEI and we were privileged to go visit them on our first anniversary.
I got to tour the Anne house before the fire.
It was so lovely!
Sarah and I have just been introduced to Anne of Green Gables, the books, this year, and we are so enjoying them. I haven't seen the movies yet, I want to finish the books first. But a dear friend of mine blessed me with the whole set of books last month as a house warming gift. :) Talk about being shocked and blessed. Once I get past Christmas gift making, I will finish the series, then maybe rent the movies.

Anne is awesome! Yet, even I started to get Anne overload at one point.
You see, our then 13yo dd (Blake) watched the Anne of Green Gables dvd series almost non-stop for weeks on end. Even now, at 19, she still pulls it out and goes on Anne Marathons occasionally :)
Maybe it's that dd feels she is a "kindren spirit" with the heroine, Anne Shirley. After all, with her flowing red hair and flair for the eccentric, Blake is, hands down, our resident drama princess!
I love Anne of Green Gables---it's high on my all-time list of favorite movies. The sequel, Anne of Avonlea, is just as engaging and fun as Anne of Green Gables. Don't you just love her???
Anne of Green Gables is wonderful. Did you know that they are having a Knit with Anne of Green Gables? My daughter and granddaughters are doing it. Also this coming Summer in PEI is the 100th Anniversary of the Book! What a party that will be!
Hurray, I might be number 21 on the list, but at least i posted a Show and Tell today. I regret not being able to do so in the past few weeks... so glad I am today!!!
This is my first time participating in show and tell. What a great idea! I am curious what age you think Anne of Green Gables would work for. I have two girls ages 7 & 5.
Hi Mary,
I'm a little late, but made it up for S & T today.
Enjoyed seeing your crafts show pic's and what a wonderful/beautiful job you did. Such warm loving into your work. I'm a Little House on the Prairie, loved that show and the book too.
I live in the Land of Anne, beautiful Prince Edward Island. Anne is probably one of the Major industries on PEI (well the toursim generated by her) quite a feat for a fictional character. Do come to PEI and visit Green Gales and see where she "lived" while the books are fictional the place are real. There are 2 big Anne Plays each sumemr I've let to see eitehr the 1st has been playing for a long time at The Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown, it's simply Called Anne of Green Gables the 2nd which has become quite popular is staged in Summerside at the Jubilee theatre it's called Anne and Gilbert.
I would encourage you all to come to PEI and see Anne but there's also so much more to see here.
We moved here from Nova Scotia and at the same time Adopted our Kids and our daughter gets a great kick out of similiraities between her and Anne my wife doesn't quite find it as amusing to be Marilla
Don't know how I did it, but I got last weeks S&T when I posted to you that I got my S&T up and running. But at least I got it on here now. I am sorry I am so late getting it going. Busy day. Thank you
I first read Anne of Green Gables when I was 11. I can't remember when the movie came out, but it was on TV (here in Canada) before it was ever on video. Anyhow, I was hooked too. Since then I've read the whole 'Anne' series as well as others by L.M. Montgomery(like Emily of New Moon and Story Girl). She also wrote quite a few short stories. I will warn you that the 3rd 'Anne' movie doesn't stick to the story line in the books.
Hi Mary
I love Anne of Green Gables, too. It's so beautiful there. When I watched the movie, though, I cried when "Matthew" died. And then I cried for days after that. I kept telling myself it's "just a movie" and "it's not real" but I couldn't stop crying!

Wow! Show and Tell Friday has really grown!
I love this movie too (and the books). I remember watching them each week on PBS. Megan Follows was everything I'd dreamed Anne would be. :) Earlier this year, I pulled out the old VHS with our original recordings. Yuk! It was a horrible recording....but I watched it anyway. DH suffered through it with me (not the movie, the poor quality) and laughed so much (even at the parts that aren't funny!). He said he understood me so much better after watching the movie. LOL Despite my dark brown hair and lack of freckles, I am Anne! :) The sad part of this tale is that we actually honeymooned in Nova Scotia, but I insisted that my husband plan everything and surprise me, (because I was stressed enough about the wedding), and he had no idea about Anne and PEI and its proximity to Nova Scotia. We were SO CLOSE, but couldn't fit in a visit to the island. Sad sigh! :( I keep saying we just have to go back again! :)
Have a wonderful weekend!
Oh how I love the "Anne of Green Gables" series. I've seen all three. We even have the set of books somewhere. Several years ago, my family along with my parents, went on vacation to PEI. We really enjoyed it. I will say that the bridge from the mainland to PEI is one long bridge!!!! On our way to PEI, we reached the bridge at night time. So it was dark as we drove across it. It seemed so long! Later, I saw a picture of it and was amazed at how long it was!
Hope you've had a great day!
Take care,
Karen

Hi!!!
Isn't Anne Of Greengables fun?! I put it on my Christmas list for this year. But I don't like the last one, it seems different than all the others! But I REALLY like the rest of them!
I put my S&T up.
Oh, yes, we have the videos and they are my favorite!!!! Our youngest son has trouble with them, too. :-) I was still single when the local tv station aired them every Tuesday night for so many weeks. I didn't have a tv, so I would go over to my mom & dad's and watch them with my mom. That was such a special time! My dad & brother never liked the story, but my hubby enjoys watching the videos as much as I do. We had even talked about visiting PEI some day, but have never gotten there yet. Maybe some day. :-)
Also, thanks for your kind and thoughful comments on my blog. We're still waiting to hear what kind of a job God has in store for Norman. Prayers are very much appreciated.
~Connie
We *love* this movie. I was thinking the other day how I'd love to own the series.
I am so happy for you that your craft fair went so well. My oldest would like to get more into beading. She has done a few things for herself.
Thanks for doing Show & Tell every week. I really enjoyed it. Everyone had such neat things and ideas to show off. And I can't believe how sweet evyone was with their comments. Thanks for doing this.
