Dec. 6, 2007~ Show and Tell Friday~ Candles and Being the Light of the World ~
It's that time again....
I have been making my traditional chunky votives.
You start by melting the wax in a small can inside a pot of water. Make sure the can doesn't float and the water doesn't bubble. Just hot enough to melt the wax slowly. Oh, the green specks are wax colour. ( Canadian Spelling )
Then pour melted coloured wax into a cookie sheet you only plan to use for candles from this point on. Once cooled then cut into small chunks of wax. Fill greased ( you can use olive oil or Pam veg. spray) votive mold.
Update: If you want to buy some votive molds and other candle supplies online go HERE
AND for info on candle wicks go HERE
After putting in the wick.( I used wicks that had a metal tab on the bottom) then filled in with the green wax chunks.
After that fill with melted clear paraffin wax. Let it cool and pull out the candle.
Aren't they cute !!!
Here they are next to one of our Nativities. ( My MIL gave this one to us early in our marriage.
"The Lord is my "light" and my salvation: whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life: of whom shall I be
afraid ?
Psalm 27:1

Mary you are so crafty! You seem to really enjoy making things with your hands. Thank you for sharing with us how you make candles. That is really cool and i enjoyed seeing it.
Oh, wow. How fun! They turned out really cute. I should share how to make pinecone fire-starters sometime. They are amazing. No more newspaper or kindling needed. Nope. Just a wax-coated pinecone and firewood (logs). Maybe I'll take pics while we're up in Tonasket this weekend.
I'm anxiously checking the mail each day, but so far...no CANADAGIRL special. (sad face). Murphy's Law states it will probably come while we're gone. DS has strict orders to CHECK THE MAIL on Saturday. LOL
I'll let you know as soon as the special delivery arrives, my SSIC! (as well as send you my return mail). :-)
took a shower this morning for the first time in a week during to sickness... and I prayed for you. I prayed that today you'd have comfort and patience today while you deal with your water issues, that you'd have inspiration to how to manage the issues, and will have the strength to deal with anything that comes your way today.
Nice color to your handcrafted candles. The wood Nativity is a treasure too. You have reminded me I must get busy and decorate.
Suzy Scribbles sent me your way. She had to explain Mr. Linky to me. Suzy has been helping me get our blog going and oh, it's been an ADVENTURE from that she told me I should go sign in with Mr. Linky. Susan made me the Phylis Diller Idiot Blogger Award due to my 'venting'. Currently it's my 2nd post down.
You have some wonderful things to Show N Tell here.
I remember my first Show N Tell in kindergarten and dreading it. It's much easier on the Internet.
Your candles turned out really good!
I am glad you posted about them.
Maybe next year you can make your own dip candles for Chanukah!
Because of Jesus, Bobbie
Thank you for leaving a comment on my blog. I don't have a Canadian flag. We sent a flat traveller to Canada once for a geography project. If you want send me your address and I'll send you a flag. Do you want a union jack? From Ariel.
Your candles are beautiful!!! Wow! I love the nativity, too. I just love nativities and have quite a few. I added a small one to my collection this year I found at a thrift store. :o)
Thank you for your sweet comment on my blog! You are such a sweet and special friend!! (((HUGS)))
Today while I was at the college, one of my classmates said she has been stranded from her family since Monday when the storm came. She was crying, and I don't blame her. I don't know if I could go a week away from my family during a disaster.
Hi,
What cute candles and what a great Show & Tell! Mom has made candle before. But they came in a kit.
I put my S&T up. It's not very exciting though.
