Dec. 10, 2007~ Live Nativity and Holiday Open House 2007 ~
Last night we went to a wonderful eve in town. Most of the local churches get together every year and put on Christmas on Bak*r Street. It is one of our family traditions every December.
They have people dressed up in the the Nativity story.
The Magi
Joseph, Mary, and baby Jesus
They had a area for the petting of the stable animals
Noah petting a lama
Noah riding the donkey
Nicolas getting his turn
This Christmas Tradition we do when circumstances allow. One year we didn't get to go because our van side door wouldn't stay on so we stayed home that year.
I love how this is a opportunity for someone to hopefully want to know more about our Savior. I pray for some to find out that Jesus didn't stay a baby but grew up and gave the most precious gift ever.... his life and our Salvation.
Other traditions we do are....
Making Cards Making Candles Lighting the Menorah
Making fudge( I make two other kinds too... a date fudge and a type of butterscotch fudge. I hope to show them this week)
We do so many other things. Like the first night putting up our tree ...we only put on lights and talk about Jesus being the light of the world. Then each night we put on a different "symbol of Christmas" ornament.
I plan to start tomorrow sharing a different Christmas symbol each day, starting tomorrow.
I try to take anything we do and let it tell a part of the story of Jesus' birth or about who he is.
We personally don't celebrate Santa Claus but we do tell the story of the real St. Nicholas. ( I hope to share on this in the next week or two too) I am not sure how many symbols I will be able to share about but I will do as much as I can in the next 3 weeks. We take the time to observe the 12 days of Christmas too. Extra days to share with the boys of who our Savior is.
That is a wonderful witness. My kids would have loved the donkey rides, too. Looks like you had great weather for it. There is a living nativity here tonight, but it is freezing rain, so I think we have to pass this year. Blessings...

How wonderful that the local churches come together for this event. I would love to see that happen in our community. We go to one of the largest churches in south metro Atlanta and we always have a spectacular Christmas musical. It seems that the other churches in town don't like us though. I know it's just jealousy. It would be wonderful for all of to unite at this time of year.
Hello! I'm getting ready to put my Prayer Request Sunday post up tomorrow. Do you have any prayer requests or PRAISE reports? Just e-mail them to me and I'll add them. Tell me what you want the request to say, too.
E-mail: so.cal.val@verizon.net
Thanks! Have a great Saturday night. Oh, I added your water situation onto the prayer requests. :)
How awesome that would be! It looks like you all had a great time. I would have loved to see my girls up on the donkeys ;) . Yes I an Canadian also! From the good 'ole Maritimes. One of the few differences between us is that I have all girls! I posted on your viewer thing, but my fingers slipped and posted momogmhasr instead of momofmhasr, have to remember to check before I hit enter! I pray you have a great Sunday worshipping our Saviour!
We are going to something just like this next week. mary, I will keep you in my prayers. May you have a blessed Sunday and that your back will get better. Lot's or HUGS,
Mary, this is so neat! I wish we had something like that here! My boys would absolutely love that! You should add this post to the holiday open House, just add the link if you like. I'm sure others would love to see this too!
Hi Miss Mary,
Your post is so wonderfully filled with your love of family and the Lord. Your fudge made my mouth water!!! Yummy! I love reading about your traditions.
Blessings to you my friend,
Mama Karen
Those are some neat holiday traditions. I have learned so much from reading the holiday posts. I will be praying that they will catch the gunman quickly and for the families of those he killed.
Pam
My children would have enjoyed that so much!! Looks like a wonderful time and a wonderful show of the love of Jesus!
Have a blessed Christmas!

Mary, Having traditions is so important to creating an environment of transformational love for our children. You have done a wonderful job creating a family structure that will be full of memories!
How neat is that! I love how your area churches get together to do that! How fun! I wish our town would do that too! Our town has an annual Snow Days parade, but it is always so cold that we have never gone - lol, but I guess this last one was their biggest with about 75 entries - I wonder how many of them reflected the true meaning of Christmas - I'm sure not many. I like your candles too! I have made soy candles before.
