Jan. 10, 2008~ Write On ! ~
Today I wanted to share some "gems" I have found on long time ago and a series I just found.
The one long ago....
Click on graphic above to go to Diana Waring's History Alive website. Diana and her husband compiled articles from the 50 different veterans. ( I am sure you would reconginse some of the names)
I have read and re-read this book over and over and I keep gleaning and being refreshed by it for years. It is stories from 50 veteran homeschoolers sharing what they wished they'd known when they 1st started homeschooling. These people are our "pioners" in HS. They started to homeschool before the word homeshool was even really known ! We are so fortunate for these brothers and sisters in Christ who paved the way for us. We have so much selection in books because of these people. Well if you haven't gotten it... I LOVE this book.
Now for the new "gem(s)"...
They have a book at each grade level. I found that the Write Source books goes more and more in depth in each level. Heart of Wisdom recommends and uses Writers INC in their curriculum package. I was looking through it and saw things that looked Canadain and guess what it is published in Canada. You can easily get it on Amazon and such. It is the best I have seen in the appealing to kids and making writing NOT dry a dull. It teaches them all kinds of how to's in writing and it will for sure make things easier and more fun in our homeschool. I can't recommend these enough. I am so looking forward to using them this year.
Thanks for sharing about them. I will have to look into them as I'm going through my curriculum 'dance'. :)
I hope to be able to chat tomorrow afternoon, though I don't know. We have lessons and our grocery shopping to do. If not, I'll try on Saturday. Are the boys really excited now that it's so close? I'm sure they are. If they can, tell them to take some pictures so we can see what it's like. I've been interested in curling for about 4 years now, ever since I saw it in the Olympics. It's an interesting sport. :)

Thanks for sharing! I'm looking for some book recommendations on my blog right now.
Regarding your post below: Our snow keeps falling overnight and then melting in the rain. The kids keep wishing that they lived in Calgary(we have relatives there) and I remind them that when we're wearing T-shirts in the Spring, they(in Calgary) still can get snow!
I LOVE the book, Things We Wish We'd Known. That is a great idea that you posted this. I think everyone should read this. It really helped me. Now, I gave it to my daughter (the one with three little ones) and she gave it to her sister-in-law for Christmas - she has 6 kids and really struggles with homeschooling, even though she was herself.
Thanks for the writing suggestions. I do have the one that HOW suggested, but the first two I've not seen before.
