Jan. 15, 2008~ Two sickies and backdoor provisions ~
Please keep us in your prayers. Noah came down with the flu on Sunday and Nicolas on Monday. I feel like I am fighting it and haven't come down with it so far. I pray with rest, water, tinctures, and prayer I will be be able to ward it off. So I am playing nurse right now.
On a different note:
I have been wanting to get back to posting Tightwad Tuesdays and haven't yet. But I have been feeling the need more lately. I have always wanted to find ways to encourage moms to be able to stay home and be able to home educate their kids the whole way through. I find that it is even MORE nessesary to homeschool through the highschool years. What I hear that is going on in jr. and highschools make me shake in my boots. We have to be turning a blind eye if we don't see it. There are ways to have our children test their wings with out shoving them in the lions den.
Now, I know some sweet sisters that have no other choice. They have done all they can and they are trying to just meet the basics. That is something different. But I pray that I may help with ideas to lessen the need to go out as much or at all.
Now you are probably wondering why in my title I have ...backdoor provisions. About 5 years ago a friend was talking about a mutual friend's phrase. "Backdoor" provisions are where you lay what you need at the Lords feet and you have NO idea how where it would come from. You seek the Lord's peace and have faith and knowing he will provide what you need.
I have at times cried and prayed to have faith like a child and said I have NO idea how the Lord was going to provide without us going into debt more. One time it was when we needed a car repair. Well someone had given money to a young couple to fix their car but
ended not needing it and they said the Lord wanted to bless us. This all happened when my hubby and his aunt were trying to figure out what to do with the car and I was at home praying. The neat thing was the money that these friends helped us with was 1 dollar more than we needed.
I have to say we live on a humble income and I have learned a lot over the last 17 years. I pray that I can encourage others if they really feel called to stay home and homeschool their children that there is a way. Or a way to show ways to redistribute where their money is going to where they really want it.
I will be keeping your family in my prayers. Hope everyone gets well soon. Thanks for the tightwas Tuesday post. I have been depressed over our finances for a while and this was an encouragement.
Hugs,
Pam
I can't wait! Sounds like another niche you would be great at. I've been in that situation, and to an extent we still are. (did I mention all the furniture I'm moving around in the house was left here?)
My grandmother's 90th bday *party* is in March, in Nebr, and we really can't afford to drive 2000 miles or fly us there. So I guess that will be a current "need" I will lay at His feet (and leave there!) and see what happens... :D
Thanks for stopping by and commenting on our wedding anniv. :) Oh, did I ever tell you what my yahoo IM is? romans6_6 did hubby hook you up yet?
Added more books to the giveaway list :)

I look forward to future Tightwad Tuesdays. One thing I learned long ago from a very wise lady at church, "If you don't have the money, don't go shopping!" It struck me as odd at first, but then I realized that sometimes, back then, I'd make lists of things I was running low on and go ahead and get them and end up spending more money on other things that jumped into my cart. I think I blew $70-$100 a week that way, easy! *blushing*

I so understand! :) I've been feeling the need too. It's funny, Hubby and I are in extreme debt. Medical bills have taken their toll. We joke all the time about moving tho Canada (if we didn't have family here, it might become more than a joke!). Even though we are in this situation, I look around and see people in more need than I am and it breaks my heart. That's one of the reasons I try help out with finding things on the web for people. If it can save them a little money, then it's worth it to me. In the process I usually end up helping myself anyways. Almost every time I do a new search, I find something I can use! lol! :)
What a great thing you want to do. I always love reading about tips and ideas on ways to change things and cut back where needed. Thanks for wanting to do this, I look forward to it. :)

A friend of mine wrote a really good post on taking care of the family during the flu. Lots of tips...

I am praying that your family gets better from the flu real soon. I am amazed at how God takes care of us when we least expect it.

Oh Mary - the Tightwad Tuesdays sounds wonderful! I look forward to reading your posts. And I certainly do appreciate what you shared in this particular post. I have been learning to live day-by-day, trusting in God's provision in His time and in His way. It's not always easy and I admit, I don't always understand why things go the way they go sometimes. But what I do know is that my God is able to do the impossible. Nothing is too difficult for Him!
Hope you're having a great week! I hope to do a post tomorrow with an update on my pregnancy.
Take care and I hope you all are feeling better soon!

Thanks for the encouragement! I can't count the number of times we've received a "backdoor" provision. It would literally take me hours to list them all in detail. Any time I feel discouraged, I think of one of these things and realize God is blessing my efforts.
Very nice post Mary! DH and I have many times over and over again done the "backdoor provisions" it's amazing how and where the provisions He sent our way came from. We are laying at His feet at this time, pray for his raise. I will have to post sometime too how the Lord helped us I have called many times "The Miracles"
I hope your df is doing better.
(((hugs)))

I think I'm going to really enjoy your Tightwad Tuesdays. Well, not 'enjoy' exactly, but I hope I'll be able to put them into practice. You know what I mean! You're so smart to come up with something like that.
You haven't caught the bug, have you? I sure hope not!
