Feb. 11, 2008~ Tightwad Tuesday~A Valentine Cake and Muffins ~
Well in honor of Valentines Day coming this Thursday...
I wanted to give two really neat ideas I have done with my guys( the boys and Handsome)
I make a Heart Shaped Cake and Heart Shaped muffins AND you can do it very frugally.
For the Valentine Heart Shaped Cake...
you take a 8 inch square pan and a 8 inch round pan and fill and bake with favorite cake batter. I use my wacky chocolate or carob cake recipe. Then cut the round in half. Turn the square cake on point and place the round halves to the side of each side of the diamond. Frost with favorite icing. I personally use a butter icing that has a pink tint and then stick candy hearts all over it.
Now for the Valentine Heart Shaped muffins
Fill cupcake/muffin papers after you have placed a marble on one side between the muffin paper and the muffin tin. Do this to all 12 in the muffin tin and fill with favorite cupcake batter. Bake and after cooled frost with favorite frosting. I like to place a heart shaped candy on top.
I hope to be posting on Wordless Wednesday or Valentines Day pics of my goodies.
If you have a tightwad tip and want to join please post and sign Mr. Linky.
I cannot wait to see the photos! I never thought of using a marble to create a heart shaped cupcake. Now, that is a great way to have "fancy" heart shaped cupcakes without spending $$$.
Mama Karen
Great Valentine ideas! I knew about the cake one, but never heard of the cup cake idea - very cute. None of us are big cake eatters here though - but don't tell MamaK that (teehe). Jeff & I would rather have a birthday pie, Amber likes angel food cake w/raspberries & whipped cream & Anna just likes frosting. lol
I love the cupcake idea. I never heard that one before. Thanks for sharing. I found a heart shape cake pan at a yard sale so my heart shape cake will be very easy this year.
Blessings,
4sweetums
This is a great meme! You have such neat ideas, Mary. I am making the "marble heart" cupcakes this year myself, but may add the cake on as well, it sounds so cute. Thanks for hosting this. Have a blessed week. Julie
Wow! My dear Mary, you are brilliant! Although, I think I've lost my marbles. I mean, my marbles like the round shiny things... Yeah, you know what I mean. :-P
A marble. Go figure. What a simple way to make a heart out of a cupcake. If I were not doing Valentine cookies with the grandkids tomorrow, I'd give this a try. But we're decorating cookies tomorrow. Yep....a future S&T in the making. :-)
We want pictures :) That sounds like fun. I'm going to try a recipe for breakfast I either read here or somewhere, not sure where, was it from you?, but you take a slice of bread, cut out a heart in the middle with a cookie cutter, place on greased skillet, and add an egg in the middle and fry on both sides. I hope it turns out well lol.
Wonderful idea! I like to make a heart shaped cake for Valentines, too, but I have the heart shaped pans. I don't know if I'll do it this year as I'm still sick. I have a couple of projects I want to do for my boys and hubby, too, but they may be late. Have a wonderful and blessed day!!
I hope you are having a good week. I got my TT up just now. Finally I have internet again! Wanna chat tonight? Leave me a message on my chat board if you do. I'm going to go read to the girls, then I'll come and see if you got this.
Oh I am so thankful that you know these wonderful books!! I have been searching for character training books for K and am never sure which ones to buy and it helps to have someone who has read them and can really recommend them :) The cakes just come out of my head *grin* I remembered seeing a ladybug cake once so went to work recreating one and the castle was the same, just using pictures of completed ones to figure out how to make it :) I'm going to share how to make the ladybug next friday :)
Hugs,
Rosina
