Feb. 14, 2008~ Show and Tell Friday~ Our second visitor came out of hiding ! ~
It's that time again...
Well our hermit crab sitting has got a bit more interesting. The second hermit crab decided to show up. They will bury themselves for periods of time. At first the owners thought that the one that just showed up had escaped and wouldn't be seen again but guess what !!! This little guy our gal showed up. At first we thought that Mild had changed his shell but no it was a smaller shell. Then one of the other boys noticed there were TWO hermit crabs in the aquarium !!! Here is a cute pic of the two greeting each other. We were thinking of getting a second one for Mild to have a friend but now we don't have to.
Well here they are ...
( one hermit crab is in/behind the egg shell. They eat egg shells for calcium)
I was asked...
How exciting that must have been for the boys! Do they get to "play" with them, or do they hole up in their shells when handled?
Yes, the boys can hold them and the big one doesn't retreat into his shell. We haven't tried it yet with the smaller one. I don't remember the smaller ones name. I need to ask the owners again. lol
These animals are very social . I am soooo glad the other one came out. I could tell that the bigger hermit crab was really getting lonely. I am tickled pink that they are together and friends again. We all need a good friend.

When my oldest son was 6 he decided in the middle of the night to sleep with all four of his hermit crabs. He tucked them all into bed and it never occured to him that them might wander off. It was at least a week before we found them all.
Blessings,
Dawn
Those crabs look like a fun pet!!!

I wish we could pet sit for one! That's the way to go. You can enjoy them and then move them on! Or do you think you'll be getting one now?
(((hugs)))

Good Morning, I have my S&T up today. Thanks for doing this every Friday, It is really fun.
I think those hermit crabs are so cute too. Have a great day
[At first the owners thought that the one that just showed up had escaped and wouldn't be seen again] Oh, I am afraid I would have torn my house apart if I thought there was an escaped crustacean wandering about.
Cool!! That does sound exiting! I always thought it would be fun to have a hermit crab.
Did you have a good Valentines day? I Did!!! Please come and see my Show and Tell to see pics.
Have a good night!
How very interesting! Someday we might have to get something like this but for now the boys have dogs. :)
Do you remember almost a year ago now when we talked about the family camp in Washington. I have dates posted when all their camps are this year. I don't know if you are familiar with Above Rubies but they are going to be their speakers this year for a womens camp and a mens camp.
Loved your valentines cake? Might have to give that a try. Sorry didn't get anything posted for Show and tell Friday. It's been a little. :(
Isn't it interesting that crabs actually make fun pets? We really enjoyed ours...yet when the kids were small and would take them out, they sometimes forgot to put them back in their habitat. That made for a bit of a surprise one day when my son started to put on his shoe and found a crab had decided it was a good place to hide!
Interestingly, the domestic crabs we had were really more 'tame' too. Those that I used to find on the beach as a kid were real 'pinchers!' I still have a scar from one of those!!!
They look like fun and interesting pets. So far, all we have had are fish, a frog and now cats. God sure has given us an awesome and fascinating (and sometimes amusing) creation, hasn't He? :-)

Your hermit crabs sound so fun :) I was just reading on Jenn's blog about reading the bob shultz books to your children. K has issues sometimes to and I have looked at both the books you recommend but have not yet purchased them but now I think I should since you have used them and liked them. I just wanted to clarify thought that you read them aloud to your children? They aren't to over their heads to use as a read aloud? K is 9 do you think that it would be a good listen for him? Hope you don't mind all of the questions *grin*

Anyway, we have hermit crabs too that we just got 2 weeks ago. The kids are enjoying them; we have two and they are fairly active. It is fun watching them and learning about their habits.
