Feb. 18, 2008~ Tightwad Tuesday~Save on Drying ~
I would like to share a simple and easy way to cut down on your drying time for the clothes dryer. I have seen these fancy dryer balls ( they cost $10-$15) that you put in your dryer with your wet clothes. I think they quoted it cuts down 10-20% of your drying time. I have heard and tried throwing two "dry" hand towels in with your wet clothes to dry. It fluffs the clothes as they are tossing around in the dryer. What can be easier( and less expensive alternative ) ???
There is only a few "BIG" ways to save money but what REALLY saves money... is all the "small" things we do that adds up.
This is Leslie! I am giggling because I came here to link my post and saw that you also talked about little changes making a BIG difference. Great minds think alike!
Have a great Tightwad Day!

I wonder if you put a bit of liquid fabric softener on the dry towels would you need scented dryer sheets then? I have the dryer balls, they were around $8 at a hardware store. I'm really not certain (and I'm not going to research lol) whether they help or not.
Thanks for linking me this morning!

I've heard of folk using washclothes for dryer sheets by putting a teaspoon or so of fabric softener on them before throwing them in the dryer. When I use my dryer (Nov. through March) I just cut my dryer sheets in thirds and try to get the clothes out before they are bone dry.
Thanks for asking. I personally don't use fabric softener. I will use washing soda or vinegar to soften my clothes but that would be it. The dry towels are what fluffs the clothes up and speeds up the drying.
I've heard that tip before too! I've never seen the dryer balls you're referring to though.
I'll sometimes throw a dry towel in when I'm drying cloth diapers- those things seem to take forever to dry.
Love, Alyssa
I am not totally sure but it might make a difference if the towels are bathroom hand towels b/c of the thickness. But I could be wrong. Try it out you never know. [0=
I try not to use the dryer much, but there are certain loads that do get put in there. This is something to try to cut down on the energy usage and lower the bill even further!
I tried using two smaller towels with my load of whites today. I was able to shave about 10 minutes from my drying time! Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful tip! I can't wait to try it with the darks, which is usually my "heavy" load and see how it works.
