Mar. 10, 2008~ Tightwad Tuesday~Bread and Biscuits ~
We don't have any bread discount stores near us so we make our bread and biscuits. We work at making as much as we can whole grain so I use whole wheat but you can substitute it with all purpose.
Bread and Biscuit Recipes
Whole Wheat Biscuits
Mix well....
6 cups of whole wheat flour
3 Tbsp. of sugar
3 Tbsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. of salt
Then add 1 cup of olive oil. Mix and cut in oil till it is the texture of cornmeal.
Then add 2 1/4 cup of milk. ( I cut down the cost by mixing 1 cup of milk and 1 1/4 of water) Stir in liquids until dough leaves side of bowl. I divide up to what fits in the palm of my hand and press down when placed on cookie tray. I makes 12 large biscuits.
Bake at 450 * for about 10-12 min. till golden brown.
Another one of my most favorite and easy bread recipes and FAST too is
I was just thinking the other day that I needed to make more of our own bread products. I have a mill, so making things with fresh wheat is easy. I have noticed that bread is so expensive, even at the commissary, where I shop. I plan to shop today and pick up the ingredients to make more bread this week.
I also am thinking that I could just bake one day and then freeze what I need for later in the week.

Hello dear friend! That biscuit recipe will come in handy tonight when I make dinner for the out of towners. Today we are going to the museum, so I won't be posting a TT. I did want to come by though and say hello. I'll be back tomorrow.

Thanks for posting about the Whole Wheat Biscuits. I definitely prefer to use whole wheat flour, but most recipes don't call for it, and I know sometimes they have to be adjusted a little to use whole wheat. I have to go through all the work of making homemade things to have them turn out terrible.

This was my first week joining Tightwad Tuesday, it's been fun :)
Thanks for hosting this. It is so fun and helpful to see how everyone is trying to save some money. Homemade biscuits and breads are wonderful. The smell alone is worth the effort.
