Mar. 17, 2008~ Tightwad Tuesday~ Saving in ... Language Arts ~
My tip for saving money for homeschooling in the Language Arts department.
I have to say this is a department that I have spent A LOT of money in. If I was to start all over again in my teaching language arts in my homeschool . I would have bought this set and stayed put. Plus ....Karen Andreola's "Charlotte Mason Companion" and went no further. This is a area that I am not confident in and have spent more here then I care to admit.
But... I am also someone who is willing to spend a little time and with prayer to pick a wonderful and natural way of learning how to write. This audio is jam packed with great ideas ! Here is what Cindy Rushton says about her Language Arts ...The Easy Way.
Language Arts...The Easy Way!

This book is great for any and all ages as it gives encouragement for the process of writing...and ideas for anywhere along the process!

I hope you have fun visiting all these gals and their terrific Tightwad ideas.

"If mothers could learn to do for themselves what they do for their children when these are overdone, we should have happier households. Let the mother go out to play!
If she would have the courage to let everything go when life becomes too tense, and just take a day, or half a day, out in the fields, or with a favourite book, or in
a picture gallery looking long and well at just two or three pictures, or in bed, without the children, life would go on far more happily for both children and parents.
The mother would then be able to hold herself in "wise passiveness’ and would not fret her children by continual interference even of hand or eye - she would let them
be." ...Charlotte Mason
Hi Mary! Seems like I haven't been over here in forever! :-( I hope everything is going well for you. Not keeping yourself too terribly busy, I trust? :-P
In today's world ,with inflation jumping higher than a kite, prayer and hard work to find good educational material for your children is a necessary task. I'm glad that you were able to do this.
Blessings and Hugs, Mama Karen
Those are great ideas for Language Arts. I,too, have struggled to find something that would work with my son in this area because he does not like to write at all. I finally found a curriculum that he likes, but it took quite a while to accomplish it!

I have heard of the author, but haven't heard of that book. Maybe I can thumb through it at this year's homeschool convention.
Thanks for sharing, I need all the help I can get saving money on homeschool books.

Glad to hear that worked for you. I looked into to those items, but knew they wouldn't be a good fit for us. Isn't it nice when you finally find something that really "fits" where curriculum is concerned?
Isn't that the truth. I've spent more on Language Arts than any other subject. I wonder why it is so hard? I think I will check out this site. Thanks. BTW, I am not sure I'll get a TT up today. I am running out of ideas!

Good Tuesday Morning Sweet Mary!
Good Post - it's nice to see someone actually post about something related to homeschooling - and to have "homeschooling" and "save money" in the same post is unheard of...LOL. Glad you found something that works for you!
Thank you! It is so late, I almost didn't post a Tightwad Tuesday post, but I squeezed it in... Now, you have given me another LA choice to ponder. I've been looking at the new Susan Wise Bauer Writing program. Wonder how they compare? Hmmm... time to go check out samples.

I have been recording our journey on my blog. Go to my links on The House That God Built and you will find it. I know God has a lot more instore for us and we just need to follow where our Lord takes us.
