Apr. 10, 2008~ Show and Tell Friday~My dads wood work ~
It's that time again...
I would like to share what my daddy made me when I was a little girl. It may be a strange thing to share but the art work that went into it was amazing. Yes, it was my potty chair. He made the whole thing from scratch and then gold dusted it. ( that is what they call the this certain kind of stenciling) I have always wanted to learn this art and still plan to. My dad was born and raised in New England. And this artwork is very common in this area of the U.S. . My dad has passed away but his memory lives on. Its the little memories that I cherish. I now use it as a plant holder in my living room.

Here is some close ups of the "gold dusting" that my dad did.

How neat! I think it's wonderful to have handmade things from parents. I have several paintings that my mom did. And one of the paintings my dad made the frame for it.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

That is really special. I love how you have used it for something else instead of just packing it away in the attic or basement. Great idea!

I think it is a unique and precious S&T. And it makes a great plant holder now! One burning question: did your little ones use it too, as its proper function? What a very needed yet beautiful piece of furniture.
What beautiful work! I'm glad you still have your little chair, great idea using it as a planter. These kinds of memories are sweet and fun, especially coming from someone so special.
(((hugs)))

I love that you have a golden throne made by your papa. And what a great way to display it.
My Show and Tell is up.
Have fun Scrapbooking.

Thanks for sharing this great idea. I have a little wooden potty chair that I stenciled for my little ones. I'm going to turn it into a planter so I can keep it on display in a public room since my littlest one is now 5 years old.
That is so neat, the extra care and detail that your dad put into it. I love the idea of using it as a planter. I have an old potty chair in my living room (mine was purchased el cheapo at a yard sale and is not PRETTY like yours) that is currently being used as a perch for "my" teddy bears and dolls.
I didn't know potty chairs could be so nice. I thought they only came in plastic! :)
That's really special that you've been able to save it and use it in your home. If my daddy made me something that special, you can bet that I would cherish it.

(I just realized that I'm signed in under Rachel's. It's weird, I logged out and came back in using my password and user name, and I'm still in Rachel's - I think this means I should quit blogging for tonight)
(Did I ever answer your question about my herb garden? I can't remember, so forgive me if I'm repeating myself here - yes, I'm going to have an herb garden this year. I can't wait!
When we lived in Nebraska, their was a fire in the row of townhomes we lived in. We only had a little smoke damage, but one of our neighbors had quite a lot of damage. One item that was damaged was an old rocking chair. My Dad pulled it out of the trash... cut new rockers for it... sanded, stained and painted it and gold dusted it too. It was lovely. I have no idea what happened to that chair. My parents had it for years.
