May. 12, 2008~ Tightwad Tuesday~Make Your Own Croutons ~
Sense there will be salads coming out of the garden soon I wanted to share a YUMMY Tightwad Tip.
Do-It-Yourself-Croutons
4 slices bread( homemade is the best deal)
2 Tablespoon Parmesan cheese
1/4 oregano
1/4 teaspoon celery salt
1/4 garlic salt
2 Tablespoon salad oil ( we use olive oil)
Slice bread into 3/8th cubes and place in a bowl. Add seasonings and oil. Toss well to mix. Place on cookie sheet. Bake at 300* until crisp. Cool. Store in a glass jar. Costs about a third of store bought.

Yum! whenever I cook bacon I slice bread into strips and cook it up in the leftover bacon greese. Probably not the best for health, but the kids love 'em with garlic salt.
I just made my own croutons a couple of weeks ago!
They are wonderful! So easy to make, and not as hard as the ones from the store. I'll never go back to the store bought kind now!
I posted the hand soap recipe that I emailed you about.
I can't think of many things I enjoy more on a salad than homemade croutons. I need to start saving the ends of bread for this. My kids don't like the ends much. Good idea. And great recipe! Thanks, Mary.

Now all I have to do is get some whole grain bread. Actually, I think I will try this with Anna's gluten free bread. She would love to have croutons on her salad again! Thanks,
What I meant by distance learning is - if you want to save money in homeschooling, then you don't have to join a distance learning school like the Alpha Omega Academy or the A Beka Academy. Instead, you can use the curriculum without belonging to the school. I'll have to rewrite that part of the post since it is confusing. I'm from Maine.
What a great post!!! I need to try this - we eat salads all the time. Well, I got Weblink Wednesday up and running early tonight if you want to stop by and add a link or snag a helpful link from another HS mom.
Winter is our time for salads (that's when we grow lettuce, carrots, radishes, etc. here). That's always seemed so backwards to me. LOL Ah the joys of living in a tropical climate. These croutons sound so good though. I know my boys would love them.
