May. 22, 2008~ Show and Tell Friday~My Raggedy Ann Doll ~
It's that time again...
I would like to share a bit of my childhood with you. When I was a little girl my favorite doll was my Raggedy Ann doll. I loved her so very much. I always took her to bed each night and cherished
her. One time my mom took me on a long trip to Missouri to go see my grandparents. They were not well and needed some tender loving care . When we were traveling on the Greyhound bus I forgot my sweet friend on the bus. I know you could just imagine what happened next. I cried and cried and cried for my sweet doll. No, sad to say....we never did find her.
A few years back I asked my mom if she ever saw a Raggedy Ann doll to please pick it up and I would reimburse her. Little did I know it but my mom found one at a fund raiser for the Children's Hospital in Washington State. And... I was given a new sweet Ann doll once again. And now she sits comfortably on my dresser in my bedroom.
Now....

"If mothers could learn to do for themselves what they do for their children when these are overdone, we should have happier households. Let the mother go out to play!
If she would have the courage to let everything go when life becomes too tense, and just take a day, or half a day, out in the fields, or with a favourite book, or in
a picture gallery looking long and well at just two or three pictures, or in bed, without the children, life would go on far more happily for both children and parents.
The mother would then be able to hold herself in "wise passiveness’ and would not fret her children by continual interference even of hand or eye - she would let them
be." ...Charlotte Mason
I LOVE Raggady Ann-I too had one that I loved. I bought a Ann and Andy doll a few years back to put up, I will have to post it sometime for show n tell. She is a special doll, my dd has a small one and she was just playing with it today. How funny!
I had a homemade raggedy ann doll that my mom made. Actually, I still do. It has "I Love Marla" embroidered inside the heart on the chest. She is sadly in need of some new clothes, but that doesn't stop Caroline from pushing her around in the doll buggy.
Indeed, Raggedy Ann dolls have always been special. I never had one, though. I always meant to get one for my daughters, and I didn't do that either. I guess I'll have to make sure I get one for my grandaughter :)

I had one too. In fact, Grace received one for Christmas some years back. They are sweet dolls.
Have a great weekend. I hope you can rest and recover.
I am working on my S&T.
(((hugs)))

I am sorry that you never found your doll after the bus ride, but it is wonderful that a replacement was finally found.
I had a raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy set when I was a kid too. I don't know what happened to them.
Pam
Ah yes, I had one too, but I was kind of a tom-boy growning up and liked my stuffed animals better. :) I don't know why I forgot to get my girls each one when they were younger. Cute picture!
You poor thing! How tragic about your loss. I'm so glad you "got over it" eventually and you were able to replace her (but it's not quite the same, is it?). I made my mother Raggedy Ann and Andy on year for Christmas--much cuter than the store-bought dolls, BTW. I sure WISH I had that pattern still! I made a Raggedy Ann for my DD, also. I think she still has it. Hmmm..I"ll have to see and take a pic of it. Precious (but sad) story.
Oh, thanks for posting my S&T. I've found a few spare minutes after all--squeezing them in as fast as I can--so I thought I"d stop by and visit a few S&Ts.
Oh, i loved Raggedy Ann when i was a little girl!
I can't believe i haven't got one for my girls, yet.
We might have to ask for one for Christmas this year.
I'm sorry you lost yours on the bus. It makes me sad to think of you crying for your doll.
Ahhh... Childhood friends. I still wish that I had my favorite doll back. lol!!! I'm going to make sure I save PC's teddy bear. Unfortunately, LO never latched on to just one, he loves them all!!! lol!!
I have a similar story from when I was a little girl. I lost my "Softina" doll on a trip to Florida. She must have fallen out of the car when we opened the door. I also never found her.:( I too had a Raggedy Anne doll. Thanks for sharing sweet memories. -- Amy
How sweet! Raggedy Ann is such a sweet doll! Did you ever read the true story behind how raggedy Ann came about?- Author John Gruelle wrote the stories for his ill daugher, Marcella. He comforted her by making up stories about Marcella's beloved toys- one special toy being a rag doll she found in her grandama's attic (this doll became known as Raggedy Ann). The book and doll came out after his daughter's death. Did you know that the original Raggedy Ann dolls just had a cardboard heart sewn inside that later was replaced witht he I love you heart stencil.
Thanks for sharing your story! Raggedy Ann is so sweet!

Ann and Andy! I had a set for many many years. How special that you have one. Hubby still has a blanket from childhood. I have set aside special things for each child. ( their treasures). One is a ratty torn bear that has seen more repairs than any old car! My 21 yo insist on keeping him. So he is lovingly wrapped and boxed.
