" This is what the Lord says: "Stand at the crossroads and look: ask for

will find rest for your souls."
Jeremiah 6:16
Now this is old hat to some but to even to an old time tightwad, I am still gradually making changes in my ways. What I am talking about today is planning ahead.
If you know that you will be spending money on things like Christmas, a trip, an appliance, or even planning on being prepared for break downs of your car. This method will save you from putting things on your credit card. Which then will save you from paying interest.
What we have done is decided what we think it will cost or what we feel we can put towards that paticular event or thing. We personally have a online banking account that we are able to have sub accounts that we can lable ( what it is for) and put money away over time. For example we put away 50 dollars a month for 12 months and then we are prepared for when December comes. I have found that this takes a lot of stress away and we don't feel like we are always behind and trying to catch up to what we owe. Or if you like you can also do this with evelopes in your own home. It is a old way of being prepared.
I am finding a lot of peace by changing over to this way of paying for things. God really does want our good and he wants us to be free in a lot of ways. And free of debt is a big thing.

There are only a few big ways to save money but there are a lot of small ways that all adds up.
Please go visit these lovely ladies and glean some good tightwad tips from them.

I used that method before I got married. Now I use a credit card for everything. Once I reach $1000 on my card, I get $20 in free groceries. It takes a LOT of discipline to make sure that I don't spend more than what we have money to pay on the card at the end of the month, but it works well for us. I usually save Christmas money in an envelope, then hit the after-Christmas sales and get 75% more stuff for my money! I have done VERY well using that method for Christmas shopping, along with cutting out a lot of gift-giving.
Yes, that is a big way to take a load off your mind. I wonder if our online bank can do that. Thanks for the idea! Have a great day my friend. I am trying to upload the tons of pictures I took over the weekend. Then I will post. But first we are needing to get Grace's room under control. It is a big job.
(((hugs)))

We have many different categories set up in our accounts to save for things during the year, especially Christmas and vacations because the spending can get out of hand so quickly!
Great post!

We used this method way back when we were first married ( 28 yrs ago). It was good training and helped us learn to be good stewarts of our money. Great tip!
We do this, but we do it on the computer/paper and just keep track of different categories and allocate each paycheck. I know those who actually use cash and envelopes each paycheck.
Good tips!
Maybe someday i'll get back to doing TT.
We sure could learn a lot from the old ways of doing things. We don't use credit cards anymore. The temptation is just too much for us, especially if an emergency arises.
We've used envelopes and a ledger to divide up money in our bank account.
I read on Carol's blog that you've been sick. Hope you have recovered.
