Sep. 1, 2008~ Tightwad Tuesday~Cutting down the cost in cooking oil ~
I thought sense I made soooooooooooo much applesauce I would share a way to cut back the cost of cooking oil while baking. Now to some this is a TWT you have used for a long time but for some they may not know or have forgotten. You can use between 1/2 to 3/4ths of what they call for oil in a baking recipe with applesause. It is perfect for cakes and such. There has been times that I even replaced it all with applesauce. It has turned out GREAT.
Please also scroll down to the next post and see the Anti-Procrastination Challenge Meme for this week.

Please go visit these lovely ladies and glean some good tightwad tips from them.

Just one quick, last comment before I head off to bed - 5 comes awfully early in the morning!! I too have used applesauce instead of oil in cakes/brownies, and I love the results. Great tip! Don't suppose you could post the recipe for your applesauce for those of us who've never made it before, could you........ ? Pretty please..... :)
Okay, off to bed - have a lovely morning!
much love,
Shani
I think applesauce in cakes makes them sooo incredibly moist. This is a great tip. Thanks for the reminder. Now, if I can finagle the applesauce jar away from my youngest I could do that. He would be mortified if I used his applesauce for cakes!!! :] I just won't tell him!!!
Maybe you could share your homemade applesauce recipe on another TT for those of us who would LOVE to learn how to make it and don't have a recipe!! he he he hint hint!! :}
When I am trying to be good and cut fat in a recipe I replace all the oil with applesauce. Only when I am trying to be good, that is! :-)

Hello! I've got a show and tell for Friday, but not a TT. Hmmm. I need to get more organized! Well, guess what? I am about to hit my 500 blog entry tomorrow... In celebration, I've created a DVD give-a-way on my blog for those who participate in Weblink Wednesday. Come on by and take a look. It might be something you might want to consider entering. Fun stuff!
Hi Mary! Long time..no blog. :-)
I am trying to use my homeschool blog for a little more than book reviews. I miss my friends "over the fence"! Hope all is well with you and your guys. I am REALLY looking forward to the start of autumm...
Hope to be able to visit more now that the busy summer is drawing to a close. :-)
I have heard of this idea before -- but have yet to try it. It sounds like a winner of an idea if I did have all those applesauce jars sitting around my pantry like you do. Wanna pass some over this way?!
I've always heard about using applesauce in place of the oil but I haven't tried it.
Maybe I'll try it today. I'm planning on making some homemade blueberry muffins!
I use a variety of purees in my baking. I've done a lot of experimenting :). I bought several cases of baby food, a dozen 225ml bottles for 96 cents; can't go wrong! Oil is about $5 for 2 litres lately, $10 or more for cheap olive oil. Must save where we can and even better when it's healthier.

I know God has a lot more instore for us and we just need to follow where our Lord takes us.
This blog is the home of Show and Tell Friday's and Tightwad Tuesdays. I hope you decide to join in on the fun !
