    THEME

Planning your homeschool is a lot of fun, especially if you’re going to be trying something new. Just like finding a shiny new penny you’re excited to use it.  This week I hope you’ll share something new you’re using, why you’ve decided to use it, and if you have used it how you like it. Make sure to include the publishing information and where you got it from so others can look into if they like.

    .

I am very happy that this was the assignment this week !  I have been thinking how and when do I want to share what I am reading in ...

~The Right Brain Phonics Program by Dianne Craft MA, CNHP

~Teaching The Right Brain Child by D.C ( with DVD)

~ Understanding and Helping The Struggling Learner DVD  by D.C

~Brain Integration Therapy Manual by D.C

    .

One thing I was just reading in the Right Brain Phonics book that you train them to see the sound that is on top of the pictured phonic sound card.  That is VERY Charlotte Mason !  to see it in your mind's eye.

    .

The neat thing about all this right brain learning is not matter if you are left or right brain dominant you can double your learning to read time.  What would take two years would be done in one.  I have also been learning if your child flips letters and numbers and how to solve that.  Plus if your child isn't figuring out their hand dominance and the excercises that you can do.  All this has hit home for us and for the first time I am getting answers.

    .

I was looking at a program that was to come out and the homekit was going to be $300-$500 dollars but then never fully developed.  Then there was another program I was looking at and it would have been in the thousands for my son to get the help he needed.  But the Lord knew what I needed and led me to a booth at the homeschool confrence here in BC, Canada.  The material is from the U.S but I have a contact if you are in Canada.     I got a wealth of information and answers !   Please if your children are having a hard time reading and nothing else is working or if you want to cut to the chase and just get the answers with out trying everything under the sun go to Dianne Craft's website HERE

In all the years I have homeschooled ( 13 years) I haven't really seen anything out there like this.  I really recommend to check it out.  There is a lot of info about what your brain needs to learn in the nutrients department.  Ohhh it is a wealth of information !

I am also sharing this for ...

"If mothers could learn to do for themselves what they do for their children when these are overdone, we should have happier households. Let the mother go out to play! If she would have the courage to let everything go when life becomes too tense, and just take a day, or half a day, out in the fields, or with a favourite book, or in a picture gallery looking long and well at just two or three pictures, or in bed, without the children, life would go on far more happily for both children and parents. The mother would then be able to hold herself in "wise passiveness’ and would not fret her children by continual interference even of hand or eye - she would let them be." ...Charlotte Mason

OK, Mary. I may be getting back to you on this. I just started teaching J and K (DS's) little ones. J has been behind and has a speech and other issues problems. But I'm taking the plunge and seeing if he can learn traditionally--basically one on one. However, if things go south, I may need to get further details about dealing with this little guy, who is sweet but definitely kinesthetic and doesn't "hear" the sounds easily.

Thanks for sharing! We don't have the reading problems here but I saw she had a book about the physical causes of behavior troubles that looked interesting.

I have some friends that use Diana Craft's things and think they are the best! Glad you've found something that will work for you and that you got the answers you were looking for at the convention! One of my "new" things I shared for this meme was the reading curriculum I found "by accident" at a convention a couple years ago. I'm trying to remember if I actually did write that wonderful Mr Maloney and thank him for his books.... I know I meant to...

I too have the right brain integration therapy manual but I haven't found it all that helpful. OTOH, we were able to get dd to see a vision therapist after reading about it in TOS and that helped her reading immensely. Have you found anything to help with spelling? DD has visual perceptual and processing issues as well as dyslexia and I've yet to find anything that helps with spelling!

It's great that you have found answers. Isn't it such a relief?!?

That sounds very interesting! Thanks for sharing.

I hadn't read this week's assignment yet and I'm delighted to see what it is. I really struggled with the other assignments.

I sure wish this had been around when mine were learning to read! I know I have one child who would have benefited from this book.
I cleaned out my baking stuff today! I do not bake much ( other than bread) in the summer as it is just way too hot. I got the pans ect all reorganized and all is ready for muffins, quickbreads, pies and cakes! I love Fall and Winter baking! First bread will be our family traditional: Pumpkin Bread. Then comes the breakfast casseroles. Just feels good to get a start on seasonal cleaning in the kitchen. One cupboard down and many go!
