Oct. 13, 2008~ Tightwad Tuesday~ Making Cloth Napkins And FREE learning "how" to knit videos ~
This last week end was the Canadain Thanksgiving. I realized I didn't have enough cloth napkins for 22 people. So luckily I had some curtain samples that my mother gave me that she was given by a pervious employer that was a interior decorator. I only had to hem up the sides and wa la ! I had 22 napkins for my Thanksgiving dinner. Now if I was to do this all over again I would have used pretty sheets. ( My friend Shani suggested that.) I think that it would make the perfect weight for napkins. Now for those who heard I was making them and wanted to see them ...here they are.
Here is a close up of one.
Plus I said that to some I would give a link to free videos to learn how to knit. Go HERE
I love how eclectic they are, how pretty your table must have looked.You know I always love the date of your Thanksgiving better than ours because yours is so closely matched to Sukkot.
Because of Jesus, Bobbie
They are so pretty! I just started using cloth napkins. A family in our church recently moved and donated lots of stuff to our church clothes closet. I was able to gleen a set of beautiful sheets for each of us, two beautiful table clothes for winter, and a bag of cloth napkins and placemats. The gals love setting the table with the cloth and placemats. They are well made by hand with a surger so I was intimidated to make more of my own as I do not have a surger. But yours look fabulous. And Shani's idea of making them with sheets is wonderful! I can pick up good sheets at the thrift store for one dollar a piece. We have found we really like using the clothe.
I have tons of scrap fabric, this would be a great money saver for us! I thought of you this weekend, I was at an event and they sang the Canadian anthem. It was nice.
Have a great day!

Mary, your napkins are so beautiful. You did great!!! Thank's too for the link to the video, my daughter and I learned to knit a few years back, she got it, I did not. I have wanted to help her to improve so I can pass on my dh's grandmothers knitting needles to her and now I can.... I will keep the crochet hook though, hehehe.
Oh, Mary, they look lovely!! You did such a wonderful job!! Wa-Hoo!!
How was Thanksgiving? I hope you had a wonderful time and didn't overwork yourself. You have been on my mind almost constantly since Saturday - it will be good to talk to you and assure myself that all is well. *smile*
much love and many (((((HUGS))))), my sweet sister!

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I LOVE your cloth napkins! I have a thing for cloth napkins. I always search thrift stores for neat nappies and usually come up with some great deals. My family uses cloth napkins for each meal. It teaches the kids manners and helps the environment!
Ok, these are way cool. Now I'm impressed~ making beautiful napkins, listening to a conference, AND chatting ~ ALL at the same time! WOW! : }
(Insert bowing here~) We're not worthy~we're not worthy! he he he Just a little movie quote humor!! : }
You have such a talent!!! I hope everyone enjoyed these~I think they're beautiful!
Those are soo beautiful!!! Can you possibly show those like me who are completely sewing illiterate (if there is such a word) how to make those napkins for our family? I think they are sooo beautiful. It would save me from the years of buying paper napkins. I just got my new serger up and running last week.
Oh Mary they are lovely...and a great price ;o)
Also thanks for the link to the video...I do want to learn in my free time, hehe what free time.
Be blessed,
Chasity
Love the napkins! I love cloth napkins. My MIL always complains though about them she thinks I am wasting my time. I love placemats and the table set everynight. Hubby has learned to love it to. If it is not set because life has gotten a little to busy he is disappointed that makes me feel good. I have cultured him in some way LOL.
