Oct. 23, 2008~ Show and Tell Friday~ Fall Is Here and I Am A Curling Mom ~
It's that time again...
This week I wanted to share what it looks like at the top of our mountain we live on. We live only about 1/3 up the mountain. So it is a ways up but it means snow is not that far away.
We are feeling the season changes in weather and in our activities. It is that time of the year that we are a Curling family. ( We have anywhere from one to three curling 4 nights a week) This year not only are my oldest three boys curling but my Handsome and I are on a team as well ! LOL , yes I will get someone to take pics of us curling. I am soooo glad it is a relaxed mixed social league. Hubby and I are just beginners curlers.
.
I also wanted to say I am feeling the years now. My oldest has just turned 16 yo and passed his writen drivers test this last Monday. So we now have moved to a new stage in parenting. Here is a pic of him and the carrot cake I made him for his birthday.
Now....

"If mothers could learn to do for themselves what they do for their children when these are overdone, we should have happier households. Let the mother go out to play!
If she would have the courage to let everything go when life becomes too tense, and just take a day, or half a day, out in the fields, or with a favourite book, or in
a picture gallery looking long and well at just two or three pictures, or in bed, without the children, life would go on far more happily for both children and parents.
The mother would then be able to hold herself in "wise passiveness’ and would not fret her children by continual interference even of hand or eye - she would let them
be." ...Charlotte Mason
Ya gotta know what my favorite part of your post is, Mary. Yep, the photo of autumn-meeting-winter! It's absolutely gorgeous, and you are so blessed to be living in that beautiful countryside. I hope you never take it for granted, and spend at *least* five minutes each day just gazing at the beauty around you. *smiles*
Happy Birthday to eldest son!! 16 - wow. Not that far behind you... *sigh* Hope he had a wonderful day.
Have a lovely Friday, and pace yourself, sweetie. See you at 3.
Your snow on the mountain photo is lovely with the fall leaves. I was just telling our two that I think Mt. Rainier looks whiter like it has been getting some snow. YES! We want to see you and your handsome curling sociably!
Congratulations on having a 16 year old. We have one too. He just finished his driver's education this month. He has more driving hours to complete with us as per the state law. Carrot cake is one of our favorites for birthdays too. We have the same 'good taste'!
My daughter is due to get her driver's permit in a little over two months, so I can certainly sympathize on how your family is going to change.
Curling sounds like a fun sport, but I had never heard of it until last year.
Hugs,
Pam
I would love to see photos of curling! I find it fasinating during the winter games.
Your mountain is beautiful!
Carrot Cake is my dh favorite. Do you make your own?
Yes driving is yet another page in our parenting book!
Hugs!
How beautiful! Wow! You are soooo blessed.
I can just imagine cold, winter days at your home, snuggled inside on the side of your mountain. You are truly a homesteader. And with all of your water issues, you are kind of like a pioneer homesteader, establishing your home on a mountain and with a grumpy neighbor. If you really were a pioneer back in the days, I can imagine him to be the kind with a rifle, sitting on his porch, as you ride up on your horses asking if you could hook up to his water.
O.k., it's very early in the morning, and my imagination is getting carried away here....
Congratulations on your new activity of curling! That sounds like a lot of fun for your husband and yourself to be doing together. You will be meeting new friends and having fun!
Antoinette
I look forward to more about your Curling activities! Oh, Mary, I can't stand to think about my oldest turning 16 in just 5.5 years! You seem so calm. :-)
(((hugs)))
Jenn
Gorgeous scenery picture!! So fun that you are all curling - I wish we had a local curling rink here. Birthday wishes for your DS!!! Harrison just turned 16 too and is learning to drive. Yup, makes me feel so old every time I think about it! LOL
Yes, 16 is quite the benchmark. But you will love the new stage. Every stage of parenting has its ups and downs. But watch out! You will blink and they'll be all grown up. That's what happened to me. Aren't you glad you have them at home 24/7? When they finally do strike out on their own, it's not as hard as if they were gone in school for all those years.
Wow!! You CANNOT have a 16 yo!! Where does the time go?
I love the picture with the colors!! We don't get much color variation here in the valley. Some, but not a lot!!
What a great way to spend family time!!! I didn't know what curling was until a few years ago!!! The previous olympics!!! he he he
I think it's great you've found something you ALL enjoy!!!
That is a gorgeous picture! I love the hint of snow in the background. What a beautiful place to live. I always enjoy the view from my window but a mountain in my backyard would really make it perfect. :)
Looking forward to seeing pictures of you curling!
First, yes I definitely want to see some pictures of you curling. How fun.
And I know the whole 'different stage' thing. Sarah being 13, and starting new things, its happening here too. And truthfully, down here, she could legally start driving around 15, though I doubt we'll be doing that. ;)
JoAnn
I think it is great that you and your hubby are doing and activity like that what fun. Happy late bday to your son....I know how worried you will be once he hits the roads.....and I love snow and would love some so send some south ok! Have a great weekend!!
Happy Birthday to your son! Wow! He looks almost grown up! It's hard to imagine our boys that big, but I'm sure it won't be that long. Time goes by wayyy too fast! Hope the curling goes well for you all.
~Connie
You live in a beautiful spot, Mary. Great curling story - but where are the pictures of you learning? Just kidding, I 'learned' curling once, too, and I wouldn't have allowed any evidence of it either! Good luck on lesson #2
I can't wait to see your curling pictures. I have been learning about curling from you for awhile now.
Happy Birthday to your son. Marissa turned 16 in February... but hasn't passed her written test yet. I am really, truly not ready for that parenting stage. But, time keeps marching on anyway. Ready or not.
First , I am a daughter of the King almighty and a
