~ Show and Tell Friday~ Homemade Torllias and Grape Nuts ~

    It's that time again....

    .

I wanted to give you a peek of what the boys and I have been doing this week (during our two week Spring Break).  I want show some of the things that we made from scratch and  took some pictures to share it with you. But first I really wanted to show  the latest picture of our mountains. This was taken during one of the few sunny periods that we had.  Yeah for sunshine !

    .

    On with what we made...

here is Noah helping me press the whole wheat tortillas .

    .

For those who wanted to see my sailor's cloth that I roll all my pastries and cookies on here it is.  Sailors cloth is the fabric that they make sails out of.  It is the perfect fabric weight and weave to sprinkle flour on and roll your goodies on.  I highly recommend this as a Tightwad Tool.

    .

Here is is Luke helping me by cooking the tortillas on our cast iron griddles.

    .

Then after lunch we moved on to making Homemade Grape Nuts.

    .

They are sooooooooo easy and I REALLY suggest to try making them. Here is how I make sure there is no lumps from the baking soda and salt.

    .

One thing that I do suggest is make sure you press all the lumps out of your brown sugar too.    Below picture is me spreading the dough out on the cookie sheet.  I found the easiest way to spread this was using the back of a metal soup or serving spoon.

    .

This is what it looked like after you bake it. It felt like a cake too.

    .

This is when you make the Grape Nuts into their shape.  I couldn't believe how easy this step was.  I REALLY recommend to just chop a little at a time and tear the cake up into one inch size before you chop.  Be careful not to over chop.

    .

    .

Spread it out onto two cookie sheets.  I really couldn't  believe that it would fill two cookie sheets but it did !

    .

Here are the Grape Nuts all baked and ready to eat.  :eat

    .

They really did taste like Grape Nuts .( better even ! )  I had a hard time imagining what each step was going to look like. So when I was trying it out I documented each step.  Because it was a success  I thought I had to show you the pics.

    .

Also Thank You Homeschoolblogger for giving me the Chosen Blogger of the Week Award !   I  am speechless. ( hard to believe eh ? )

Now if you want to join us in the fun of Show and Tell Friday  just....

    .
~Make a Show and Tell Post and make sure it is wholesome.  It can be pretty much what ever you want to share.  It could be about you ...or your family ....or what is going on in your homeschooling.

~Some how link me ( Mary @ Raising 4 Godly Men or Canadagirl ) so others will know where to go to join S&T.

~Come back to me and let me know you posted your S&T by using Mr. Linky. ( I need you  to tell me each week that you want to participate, okay ?  )

~If you want the S&T button to put on your blog go HERE

    ~Then

" please go visit other gals wonderful Show and Tells !  Oh,  don't forget to comment.  EVERYONE  loves comments."

"If mothers could learn to do for themselves what they do for their children when these are overdone, we should have happier households. Let the mother go out to play! If she would have the courage to let everything go when life becomes too tense, and just take a day, or half a day, out in the fields, or with a favourite book, or in a picture gallery looking long and well at just two or three pictures, or in bed, without the children, life would go on far more happily for both children and parents. The mother would then be able to hold herself in "wise passiveness’ and would not fret her children by continual interference even of hand or eye - she would let them be." ...Charlotte Mason

I forgot to tell you that the grape nuts fluff up to cover 2 baking sheets. Just an FYI -- Don't try to make a double batch! I tried that, and it didn't turn out so well.

Wow! The grape nuts look so good! It is cheaper for us to buy tortillas here in bulk than to make them. They keep well.We use alot!
I do not have an S and T this week...it would just be news. Our week was busy with school, runs to the foodbank to stock the church pantry, trip to the vet, yardwork, ect. No real photo moments!
I do have a praise report. The dog has large golf ball sized masses on his tummy. They are benign! We are having them removed in a week. We always do vet stuff with tax check and this year we got extra. This will take care of his surgery.
    Have a blessed weekend! HUGs

I had never heard of sailor's cloth before! I wonder if they sell it in our area. Most of the shops that sell fabric around here have gone out of business.
What fun for the whole family to cook together. We do that sometimes. Hope you get all your spring break goals accomplished!

Here's my show and tell post from my blog, http://praisegirl.wordpress.com It's about my 105-year-old piano that God blessed us with from a church in Cle Elum that was cleaning out its basement. God blessed by being at the right place at the right time for the right price.

Congratulations on being chosen as the featured blogger on HSB this week!

I used to love grapenuts. Maybe I will try this recipe. I am not sure about the homemade 'por-tillas' though. They are David's favorite and I think I would end up pressing and cooking them continually. I don't want to start something that I can't stop!

Being gluten-free, I will have to pass on the tortillas and grape nuts (don't really like the store kind either). I've been thinking again how much I'd like to go to Canada this summer. August doesn't work well for you does it? What could we do if we came?
