Apr. 16, 2009~ Show and Tell Friday ~ Spindles From Our Woods and Other Happenings ~
.
Handsome's cousin made some spindles from our woods. This is the same cousin who helped us with the new addition on our wood shed/tool shed. The larger spindles were made by a friend shortly after we moved into The House That God Built and we were told by the house inspector that we needed the spindles no further than 4" apart. So then we got these smaller spindles added on by Handsomes cousin a couple weeks ago. I just love how we are figuring out ways to incorperate what is from our homestead or from the local area.
.
I had to show some pics of our first real warm day and we were able to do some lessons outside ! I asked my two older boys to move the picnic table up to the front of the house and I am really thinking we will use it a lot more here. I am creating this front area of our yard as our private space from the rest of the houses on the land. I am really looking forward to making this area very special and pretty. A place for us to hang out outside.
.
Just off to the side of that area is our upper fruit orchard and the two littles tire garden. Last year Noah started it but this year Nicolas and their cousin from next door wanted to help out too. I LOVED hearing them talk about their plans of what they wanted to plant. I love these kind of sweet moments.
Now if you want to join us in the fun of Show and Tell Friday just....
. ~Make a Show and Tell Post and make sure it is wholesome. It can be pretty much what ever you want to share. It could be about you ...or your family ....or what is going on in your homeschooling.

"If mothers could learn to do for themselves what they do for their children when these are overdone, we should have happier households. Let the mother go out to play!
If she would have the courage to let everything go when life becomes too tense, and just take a day, or half a day, out in the fields, or with a favourite book, or in
a picture gallery looking long and well at just two or three pictures, or in bed, without the children, life would go on far more happily for both children and parents.
The mother would then be able to hold herself in "wise passiveness’ and would not fret her children by continual interference even of hand or eye - she would let them
be." ...Charlotte Mason
we are finally getting some warm weather around here too! It is so nice to be outside enjoying it. I hope to get a picnic table like yours once we have a yard.

I love the spindles! They are so folk art. My boys had a tire garden many many years ago. They are great for growing potatoes in. And I love your picnic table! We no longer have one ( wore out) but we have two metal round tables. No S and T today. I am out the door most of today and just did not have anything special to share that I did not already share this week! HUGS
Hi Mary,
I am glad it is finally warming up and you are able to do spring things outdoors.
We have been able to work in our garden and do nature walks lately. So much better than being cooped up indoors!

Your spindles are unique! Cool! Their really neat.
Isn't it great to get outside with the kids after our long hard winter? That is neat that their making plans for planting. Your planting within them a seed for the future of harvesting the land.
I wish I'd signed in earlier....my internet wouldn't work this morning. Mary, you would not believe the effort that Reporter Antoinette went to get signed up this morning! I went to a Starbucks to do the WIfi thing since mine wasn't working and then it wasn't as simple as I thought it might be. I really take my Reporter postion serious, eh? :))
Keep on keeping on your encouraging ways, Mary. That is neat that you prayed that God would help you to be that, and you felt confirmed of this answered prayer. It is true, Mary. I've often wanted and attempted to tell you so, but I failed and gave up in my attempt to express what I thought. God has truly answered your prayer in this. Although not in person, you always make me feel encouraged when you write me.
Great pictures. Glad you are getting outside more. We are finally warming up and clearing up outside. So hopefully we'll be getting out more too. :)

Last fall someone loaned me the Torah Club 4 commentaries. They are separated by weekly Bible reading and commentary based on that. It is great stuff. The sections the commentaries in this volume are going over are the gospels and Acts. It weaves together the Hebrew roots/Torah/OT stuff with the gospels and sheds a lot of light on things. It also explains some discrepancies. I find it very interesting and filling. It is put out by First Fruits of Zion (FFOZ).
As for wheat...myself and my two oldest girls are on the gluten-free diet.
We are looking at coming in the last two weeks of August somewhere (not the whole time), if it doesn't clash too much with the tomato harvest... If that doesn't work, we will hopefully be able to find a time that works.
I am looking at your tires and thought I would share something a lady from the great depression shared with me. She would take tires fill one with dirt and seed potatoes, add another tire fill it with more dirt and more seed potatoes, plant them three high, cover the top with straw and water through all . to harvest, just lift up the tires and the potatoes tumble right out.
