May. 7, 2009~ Show and Tell Friday ~ My Two of My Favorite Homeschool Books ~
.
I thought this week I would share two books who have enfluenced my life GREATLY. Waaaaaaaay back at the begining of my homeschool journey I was searching for the way or curriculum or style I was to teach my two (at the time) boys. I remember thinking okay my 1ds is 3 1/2 years old and my 2ds is 1 1/2 I better figure this homeschooling thing out before I have to teach them. I went to my first homeschool confrence and it was actually the first B.C. ( Canada's ) Confrence. I remember praying for God to lead me in the way I should go. That is exactly what happened. I got to listen to a lady talk about the Charlotte Mason Method. She talked about the book Charlotte Mason Compainion by Karen Andreola. I wanted to show you how I have worn out this book as you can see from the pic below. I have repaired the cover to try to make it last another decade.
.
I also wanted to show you how well combed this book is and how well loved and marked up it is. This is how I personally learn and personalize my books. lol
.
Here is my second book I want to share with you. I found Clay and Sally Clarkson's Educating The Wholehearted Child two years after I found the Charlotte Mason Compainion. This book was so well poured over and loved that the binding broke apart. So I then put it in slip covers to save my book.
.
I also wanted to show the Tightwad tabs I came up with. I used Duck Tape to make my tabs. lol
.
I am re-reading these books recently and l hope to share of the insights that have been touching me. I will be sharing this over time in the near future. Of how I am still learning and being reached like never before. Learning just never ends.
.
Now if you want to join us in the fun of Show and Tell Friday just....
. ~Make a Show and Tell Post and make sure it is wholesome. It can be pretty much what ever you want to share. It could be about you ...or your family ....or what is going on in your homeschooling.
~Some how link me ( Mary @ Raising 4 Godly Men or Canadagirl ) so others will know where to go to join S&T.

" please go visit other gals wonderful Show and Tells ! Oh, don't forget to comment. EVERYONE loves comments."
"If mothers could learn to do for themselves what they do for their children when these are overdone, we should have happier households. Let the mother go out to play!
If she would have the courage to let everything go when life becomes too tense, and just take a day, or half a day, out in the fields, or with a favourite book, or in
a picture gallery looking long and well at just two or three pictures, or in bed, without the children, life would go on far more happily for both children and parents.
The mother would then be able to hold herself in "wise passiveness’ and would not fret her children by continual interference even of hand or eye - she would let them
be." ...Charlotte Mason
I've read the Charlotte Mason companion too. It's an interesting book. I incorporated some of it into our studies (such as the nature studies, etc.)
I guess I am 'eclectic.' I take some ideas from several different methods and use them.
Hugs,
Pam
I do have a few well loved books like that! My tabs are packing tape. I really want to find some Sally Clarkson books. I love the videos you post. What a great idea to put your pages in protectors and a binder. I am starting to get serious about planning for next year. it will be soooo different with just my gals home.
Hi Sweet Friend! Would you believe that I had in my hands those exact two books just moments ago? I am lending one and reading the other (again). Wonderful books! Must reads.

PS, I can't see Mr. Linky for some reason to link my post. :-/
You love on books like I do. Love a highlighter, lol. Thanks for the sweet note in my cbox. I am a lot better. I still am not eating back to normal, but I have been eating each meal. Although very bland. My son started vomiting yesterday. So, I guess it was a virus. Kids rebound better though, he feels great today. Hard to believe he slept all day yesterday and vomited ALL day. He is running around this morning as if nothing had happened, PTL. I had to get better the girls have dress rehearsal tonight and ballet recital tomorrow. Also my house is a MESS!!! When mom is sick, it goes down hill fast, lol.
I hope you are having a WONDERFUL day.
Be blessed,
Chasity
I think you really get good use out of books! I love the duct tape idea. I'll try it!
Blessing, Karen
p.s. I pray that you have a very wonderful Mother's Day!!!!
Good books!
That is a great way to learn and remember...marking up your books.
I just can't do it!
I use a notebook for taking notes.
My bible has no yellow outliner marks or any marks in it either...I bet yours does!
I love the Charlotte Mason Companion...I just recently revised my kids spring/summer homeschool schedule, I went back to that book and used her ideas. - I'll look and see if our library the other book you listed.
Thanks for sharing.
