Jun. 1, 2009~ Tightwad Tuesday ~ Cool Down This Summer ~
Cool Down This Summer
.
I had figured out in the last decade a way to cool down the house in the hot season without using air conditioning. You need two fans and two windows. The two windows need to be at each end of the house from eachother but they need to be on the same floor level. One fan ( on the cooler side of the house) facing into the house and pulling the cool air in. Then the other fan ( on the hotter side of the house) facing out and blowing the hot air out. I have found this to be the most effective way to create a nice cool breaze and air flow. I hope you all have fun and stay cool this summer.
.
PS:
My friend Tina reminded me about a post I gave a while back. I had mentioned in the winter if you close the curtains you can keep your house warmer by 5 degrees. But in the summer you can keep your house cooler by closing the curtians that have direct sun comming in. The windows that are on my east side of my house I close in the mornin and then close the curtains on my west side in the afternoon. Every little bit helps and this is a very cost effective way to cool the house. Please in my comments that Tina gives on keeping your house cool. They are great tips.
.
I am hoping if you have a frugal tip you will take the time to share it with us. Now after making a frugal post please link me some how in your post and then come and let me know you posted a TWT tip. Then....
.
Please give exact URL of your post. ( you can use my cbox if you want) each time you join in on the fun. Because Mister Linky isn't working I will personally link you on my post, you are worth it.
"If mothers could learn to do for themselves what they do for their children when these are overdone, we should have happier households. Let the mother go out to play!
If she would have the courage to let everything go when life becomes too tense, and just take a day, or half a day, out in the fields, or with a favourite book, or in
a picture gallery looking long and well at just two or three pictures, or in bed, without the children, life would go on far more happily for both children and parents.
The mother would then be able to hold herself in "wise passiveness’ and would not fret her children by continual interference even of hand or eye - she would let them
be." ...Charlotte Mason
We are big fans of fans !!! Okay i won't make it in stand up comedy! No really...It lowers the bill considerably. Because we live where the humidy is extreamly high we have to use air conditioning. We place the fans in front of the ac vents to move the air through a room more effeciently. We found by doing this we can raise the theromstate quite a bit and run the ac less. We also have fans in the attic blowing to the outside to pull hot air out. One more tip to keep it cool is keep the curtians/blinds closed on the sunny sides of the house.
My TWT, WWU, etc are all up.

This would be great with me. I could almost live without airconditioning anyway, since I am cold natured.
No such luck with the kids and hubby. Here's my link:

I am trying not to use the a/c since $ is still so tight here. Unfortunately, sometimes we need to use the a/c simply to cut out the noise from all of the neighbors and their noisy pets that they refuse to take care of. (sigh)
We do this, too. In the early morning, we fill the house with noise and fresh air and then we close everything, close the blinds and sit tight until about 7pm when we do it all again.
I posted a dessert I made out of things in my pantry. I am on a short grocery shopping hiatus, so I've been doing it quite a bit!

That's a great idea. We have actual fans that fit in a window, which were very inexpensive at Wallmart. I have not put your idea into play which would be excellent. Do you then keep the other windows in the house closed?
(((hugs)))

I love the fans idea. What a simple solution! We also use a fan in our damp basement, and it really helps the dehumidifier out, thus saving money as well.
We love our fans!!! They are priceless. I also do the close the curtain trick and it does keep it cooler. Also we have to keep our front door closed. The sun shines through it and increases the temp in the living room too much. Hope you have a great day!!
Be blessed,
Chasity
