    ~ Weekly Wrap Up ~ June 6th ~

(to join the fun head on over to Carol's by clicking the graphic)

    .

    From the Heart:

This last week I seem to be eating, sleeping, and drinking garden work.  I have truly enjoyed it more this week but when things get as hectic as they are now I dream of just sitting and knitting or blogging.  But there is a season for everything.  A time to... plant  and that is what the season is right now.  I am going to have to release that I cannot get around bloggyland like I would like to but that is the way it is right now.

    .

I am praying that I can make and sell enough rhubarb juice to afford a laptop in the near future.  There is 6 of us in this household that competes for the two computers.  I would love to go find a quiet place to go and write for a while.  I haven't been able to sit and write my future ebooks at all and I would like to be able to do that in the evenings.  Which is when my Handsome and boys like to use the computer.  So that is a goal of mine.

    .

In the book "The Well Watered Garden" I was suppose to look for a surprise from the Lord.  I had been looking and wondering what God would show me this week.  It wasn't till today did I really see what that surprise was.  Last year my BIL salvaged some plants from the garden of where he use to live at and gave my MIL and I some of the bulbs.  I was wondering what one Iris was going to look like and it finally bloomed this week.  Here it is ...

    .

    I love the colours that it has !  It is one of those old time iris's and it seems soooooo Victorian to me.  Yes,  you get to see that my garden still has lots of work to be done.  You get to see pics of weeds and all, lol.  But they are healthy weeds.  [0;

    .

    :w.chopOn the Homefront:

    .

We are in planting the garden craze !   Go down to In the Garden and you will get to see some pics of what we were doing this last week.

    .

Also we are possibly going to court with our friendly neighbor.  It has been hung up and even our lawyer is getting frustrated with our neighbor.  All the games that seem to being played.  Our neighbor wants to change some of the wording in the easement agreement.  I am not sure what all the leagaleze says and Handsome will be meeting with our lawyer soon.  I keep reminding myself that it is all in God's hands and it will be in His timing and His way for He is in control.

    .

    :g.gateIn The Garden:

    .

We ( Handsome, boys, MIL,  WWOOF'er ...a willing worker on organic farm and I )  planted a lot of different kinds of summer and winter squash in the ground this week.  We took all those little starters and planted them.  ((happy dance))

Here are some pics of what we have done....

    .

We planted summer squash outside the green house.

     .

Here is a big shot of what it looks like as of today where we have been crazy busy working in the garden.  This is our winter squash beds.

    .

    :fishIn the School Room:

We did our basics on top of all the activies and putting in the garden.

    .

    Bible:

discussing "Created For Work" by Bob Shultz .

    .

    :readMy Boys Read Out Louds:

Luke ...is reading "By the Shores of Silver Lake" by L. Wilder

     Noah... is reading Farmer Boy.

Nicolas.... is working his way through SSR&W books and  BOB Books.

     :readOur Read Aloud :

    .

The Young Fur Traders by ... R.M. Ballantyne

    .

    :m.glassNature Study:

    .

We got to learn all about what you need to add to the soil to give it what different plants need.   Some plants are heavy feeders and some not so much.  We learned how to give the layers of manure , blood meal, bone meal, rock phosphate, and wood ash to help the plants will thrive.

    .

    :knittingIn The Craft Corner:

    .

I only seem to have time to knit for a few minutes here and there.  Really, if I am fortunate I get to knit while Handsome has a bit of computer time at night.  And that is if I am not making something like sourdough bread, yogart, or granola.  Sunrise to Sunset keeps coming to my mind lately, lol.

    .

    :cookIn the Kitchen:

    .

I successfully made baked falafels and pita bread yesterday !! ((happy dance)).  I love that I am finding and tweeking to my needs and tastes of good things for my family to eat.  I am writing all my costumized recipes down and they will be going into my ebook cookbook that will be for a very good price.  I want to pass on to others what God has been teaching me with a family of allergies and candidas yeast.  Plus it has a tightwad'ish twist to it too !

    .

    :picThis Weeks Boys Pics:

    .

Luke taming the jungle of weeds that crept in .

    .

The guys bringing manure and peat moss to add to the soil for the raised beds.

    .

    Taking a water break

    .

    Okay back to work !

    .

    Weightloss Wednesday:

    .

My exercising really consisted of me working hard in the garden.  This week I hope to get back to Walking Away The Pounds with Leslie Sansone.  I am trying to make my portions of food smaller and I hope to figure out portion sizes better soon.  I am eating healthy and moving which is a good thing.   I am doing things that are low in fat for example the baked falafels that I made are soooooo much better for me than fried ones.

    .

The House That God Built Update:

    .

There is talk about putting on the sofits soon and putting on the final coat of succo soon too !  I shared about our water easement in  From the Heart.  All will fall into place when the time is right for the Lord.

    .

Mother Culture:( for definition go HERE )

    .

My reading has been very slow and not much of it.  Life is full and the season to read again will come again soon.

I am still reading "Created to Be His Help Meet" by Debi Pearl and Holy War by John Bunyan . So I am  momentarily putting on hold re-reading " A Charlotte Mason Compainion" by Karen Andreola.

:thinkThere is the reflections and ramblings for this week.

"If mothers could learn to do for themselves what they do for their children when these are overdone, we should have happier households. Let the mother go out to play! If she would have the courage to let everything go when life becomes too tense, and just take a day, or half a day, out in the fields, or with a favourite book, or in a picture gallery looking long and well at just two or three pictures, or in bed, without the children, life would go on far more happily for both children and parents. The mother would then be able to hold herself in "wise passiveness’ and would not fret her children by continual interference even of hand or eye - she would let them be." ...Charlotte Mason

That garden looks like such an overwhelming project, yet it gives you and your family, and extended family, and probably neighbors, good food and life! Praise God! I'm sorry to hear that your neighbor is still holding off.

Your garden looks lovely! That iris is beautiful! Love the different colors.I love the idea of looking for something from the Lord. Expecting...
For me this week it would be the wonder in the garden. I am always surprised by the life that goes on in the flowerbeds. The bugs, birds, and relationship that just flows naturally.
And I love that you mention a season for everything...I need to remember that! I need to focus on whats at hand for this season. HUGS

Hi Mary! What a wonderful place you live in. I don't want to admit it, but I envy your green, your trees, and your space. And your garden!

I have probably mentioned this before, but your boys might really enjoy the Little Britches series as read-alouds. They were written for adults, but my girls love 'em. (And me, too!) The author is Ralph Moody, and series is his autobiography.

    Hi Mary,

Thanks for stopping by to "visit."

Things are going pretty well here. There are some issues that I can't post on a blog, but that's another story. (sigh)

I am still getting online long enough to check my emails, but that is about it. Since I'm on the computer all day at work, I don't want to be on it when I get home (which is actually a good thing). :-)
It helps me stay focused on things that need done at home since I'm not getting much help or support from others.

    Hi Mary-

I've been so busy with outside and also I've been getting back into contributing to our business, that I haven't done much visiting except when people leave me a message. I really like to read about your adventures though. I love it when I hear of like minded people doing umpteen million projects (like us) and homesteading and the like. I sure hope you can get that third computer. I've never heard of rhubarb juice. We sure have a lot of Rhubarb this year - I think because it was such a wet Spring. You know I haven't gotten back into the sourdough. I will though. I'm afraid I probably gained this week - as I went out to eat a couple of times and Natalie had a Birthday so I had some Cheesecake. Yummy. I have spoiled kids I tell you! Well, only spoiled in certain regards.

    You have a great week.

    Jun. 7, 2009 - Hi, Mary!

    Posted by bbullard
I had to laugh when I read your post about the computers. There are five of us and two computers--a laptop, which is allegedly mine for work and a desktop in our formal living room. My husband also has a laptop, but the personal use of it is very restricted and highly monitored. For the sake of convenience, flexibility, and speed, the five of us compete for this one laptop. The kids even come close to hovering like vultures. I, too, am looking forward to purchasing another laptop, and I sometimes wonder if I'm being selfish in the midst of so many others with much harsher struggles. Also, I have to wonder if it makes sense to buy one now when the oldest will probably need her own in a couple or three years to use for collegiate studies. I think, like you, the overwhelming need is to be able to sit unhindered and do what I need to do. Thanks for freeing me to post that without feeling bad about it. May God continue to bless your efforts.

I will pray that you get that laptop. That way you can visit blogs and work in the garden at the same time. Get one that is easy to wash up. (lol)

    Jun. 8, 2009 - Your ramblings...

    Posted by IllinoisLoriH
    Dear Mary,
What wonderful ramblings! I love all the books you mentioned your family have been reading. Good for your boys, reading Bob Schultz's books! We just finished our annual homeschool convention here in Illinois...had a bittersweet memory, as last year Bob was here teaching, and he suffered a heart attack and passed away mid-way through the Convention. There was a class he was going to teach that we were so excited about, but it was not to be. We did enjoy one session with him, though, before the Lord called him home. Anyway, I hope your boys enjoy those books...we've been so blessed by them!
And you, brave woman, how are you enjoying "Created to be His Helpmeet?" I loved it...just not at first! I think every married woman should read that book. It is not for wimpy wives!

May God bless you this coming week, and your family! And if He should encourage you to share your baked falafel recipe before your book comes out with a certain cyber-friend in Illinois, she'd be awfully grateful :-) (She promises to buy your book, too...)

    Love in Christ,
    Lori

    Dear Canada Girl!

You sound so busy, but it sounds like a good kind of busy. I love your iris.

Today I posted the sleep rules you wondered about. Here's hoping that you get all the sleep you need. I tossed and turned last night, but will be napping this afternoon, guilt-free. :)

Could you tell about your rhubarb juice venture? When you have time, of course.
