Jun. 11, 2009~ Show and Tell Friday ~ A Special Book ~
It's that time again....
.
I wanted to share with you a special book to me. I know some of you are thinking what ?!? Why would a spelling book be so special ?
This book was given to me when I was a young lady by my father. This book is even more special to me sense my dad has passed away. I have used it so many times over the years. I hated it when I didn't know how to spell a word and someone would say go look it up in a dictionary. I have to say one of my biggest pieces of advice to anyone is if you want to look up how to spell a word or recommend to someone ( like your child) get one of these. You can quickly look up a word by guessing what it could be spelled like and if not it will be close and then you can see howit is spelled. Have your child write it out and each time you or your child needs this help they will get better and better at spelling. I am living proof of this. I was a horrible speller ( still don't always get it right) but I do find it very funny and ironic that I am the one who is always the one who is being asked how do you spell.... in my home. If I don't know how to spell a word or doubt myself I say... " one moment lets look it up" and I grab one of my most favorite books. [0=
.
I will get around as I can this week end to week but I am getting ready to go to the AGM for the chariy we are on the board for.( on my side bar under favoirte links) " Bibles For The Poor". So I am trying to get all I have to get done..done.
.
PS: please read the IMPORTANT note next two the smilies who are having fun pillow fighting.

"If mothers could learn to do for themselves what they do for their children when these are overdone, we should have happier households. Let the mother go out to play!
If she would have the courage to let everything go when life becomes too tense, and just take a day, or half a day, out in the fields, or with a favourite book, or in
a picture gallery looking long and well at just two or three pictures, or in bed, without the children, life would go on far more happily for both children and parents.
The mother would then be able to hold herself in "wise passiveness’ and would not fret her children by continual interference even of hand or eye - she would let them
be." ...Charlotte Mason
Hey Mary! I have to tell you that my husband thinks I'm weird for like the text books I hang on to at my house, too. So, I understand your attachment to your book.
My daughter stole my S&T this week! If you could link her http://hymnsandsongsbyabby.blogspot.com/2009/06/centre-island-adventure.html
Thanks!
I am a horrible speller to this day. I could use a book like that. I always hated looking things up when I was younger becuase my spelling was so bad that I could find the word based on my spelling anyway.
Blessings,
Dawn
I always thought it was crazy when they told me to go look up a word in the dictionary to see how it's spelled. . . . when you don't know how it's spelled. Sort of a circular argument. :-(
So your book looks fascinating.
And what's with this new Mr. Linky thing? My Mr. Linky's disappeared from my writing blog (but it's OK, since I have to eventually close it down anyway, what with the book going to a real publisher), but I was just curious. It seems to work OK. :-)
That looks like a great book. I had one similar for Kyle, only much smaller. We've lost it though, so I need to try and find another. You are right dictionaries are no fun for the child struggling to spell.
Anyway, just wanted to say hello. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. We are enjoying our last three days together before DH goes back to work. Unfortunately, everyone seems to be getting sick!!!! Ugh.
Oh that's neat you kept your old spelling book and that you still use it.
I reposted my Show n Tell and I'm sorry I deleted the other one.
Thanks for hosting it. It's fun and I enjoy it!
Have a wonderful weekend!
I was a horrible speller too. I could look at a word and think that doesn't look right, but I couldn't really figure out how to make it right. I am a good speller now because the computer puts little red squiggles on words I spell incorrectly. Then I right click on them and I get a whole list of possible words that are spelled the way they are supposed to be spelled. How cool is that?
What a cool book! I need one like that!
I hope you are have a good time today. Where do your bibles for the poor go to? We get free bibles to hand out to the homeless through gideon. I should have my computer back by next friday.
I am sure my mom always said that because she didn't know how to spell it! But I am so thankful she made me look it up. What a great legacy your dad left for you and his grandchildren.
I love you.
Because of Jesus,
Bobbie
I am such a bad speller. I really need to check out that book. I finally have been able to play in bloggy land today. I posted today, with lots of pics.
Be blessed,
Chasity
Hi Mary,
I'm sorry it took me this long to leave a note on your s&t. I posted mine, meant to come back, but then my internet service was not available for days and days. And now it's almost a new week of s&T!
I have a book my dad gave me too, that is special to me. He's passed away to heaven also. so I understand your special sentiment to your book that your dad left you. And what a useful book, too! I should have something like that sitting around. Good idea.
