"If mothers could learn to do for themselves what they do for their children when these are overdone, we should have happier households. Let the mother go out to play!
If she would have the courage to let everything go when life becomes too tense, and just take a day, or half a day, out in the fields, or with a favourite book, or in
a picture gallery looking long and well at just two or three pictures, or in bed, without the children, life would go on far more happily for both children and parents.
The mother would then be able to hold herself in "wise passiveness’ and would not fret her children by continual interference even of hand or eye - she would let them
be." ...Charlotte Mason
My oldest loved the sugar creek gang when he was younger. Thanks for the reminder for my next son. I had no idea there were so many of them. The music dvd's look great.
Blessings,
Dawn
These are fantastic finds, Mary! We can't afford music lessons either or sports. Sometimes I fret about that, but I figure if the Lord wants them to have them then He will provide. These books look like a great deal.
(((hugs)))
Jenn
Hi Mary,
What a GREAT selection for your sons - I'm sure grandpa would have been proud to see your boys walk in his footsteps with the carving. And a great fort - photo of their neat fort would make an excellent portfolio down the road.
Just wanted to let you know though that we have one of the Jean Wells (actually 2) dvds and so far it hasn't been an ideal experience for Anna. In the first dvd I think Ms. Wells assumes the student knows more than we did, and soon went to fast for Anna. It was quite frustrating. So then we got her new dvd for beginners/kids and it is really little-kidish. You may have a better experience with them than we did, but you might just want to order the first dvd and try it out first. Our guitar saga continued with a few lessons through community ed., and Anna did well and learnt some from the first 3 lessons, but then the instructor just kept repeating himself and she didn't learn anything new after that (sigh). So now I have resigned to the fact that she needs a real instructor for private or semi-private lessons, but too busy to check now. Maybe this fall I'll look into it. There isn't much in music teachers up here, so I may have to drive.
How fun for your boys! I am looking forward to doing activities like that with my only boy but we still have a couple of years until we can as he is only two. =0)
Lord bless your week!
Thanks for sharing...hey, I'm interested in the guitar series. Our guitar teacher used to come to the house years back, but then he went and got married, and doesn't have time for lessons anymore. We have 3 guitars and no one plays them! I bought a worship guitar book, but it doesn't seem to have inspired the guys yet. Keep us posted on how these work for you all!
Looks really neat!!! When I have some extra money, I'll have to check into the guitar program. PC wants to learn the guitar, but we don't have the money for lessons. He has the guitar already, but no lessons.
Cool books. We can't do music lessons either. I bartered piano but the guitar was all self taught with books and video. Son 2 is an accomplished player. He has worked hard to learn the art and has purchased 4 guitars and all his own equipment. He plays at Sunday Morning worship, youth group worship and this summer as a worship leader at a local camp. So books and videos will work!
Two years ago our boys worked along side their dad in rebuilding the 100 year old front porch. They learned so much. Can't wait to see what your boys build!
I am very interested in the CM book. Will be looking for that one,
Em would probably read all the boy books! She loves the Hardy boys and mysteries.
Hey Mary!
I actually have something to share this week! :) I messed up on Mr. Linky & it won't let me delete the first link. Sorry about that!
Anyway, so have your boys tried any projects from the carpentry DVD? It looks GREAT! I know my boys would love that.
We read one of the Sugar Creek Gang books in school this year & since then, I've "caught" them reading some of the others in the series. We really enjoyed it!
And I'll be checking out those guitar DVD's too! We have 4 guitars & Kenton's the only one that knows how to play. :)
THanks for sharing!
Love, Alyssa
How blessed are your boys to have such an inspirational mama! The art of wood carving, fort building, and Christian centered adventure books for boys are so wholesome, producing God fearing young men.
Blessings to you my friend in Christ,
Karen
Hey Mary!
Just wanted to let you know I added instructions for making the socks on my blog. :)
Also, I do have a "Photography Tips" category on my blog.
Love, Alyssa
A friend of mine let me borrow her set of those same DVDs with Guitar lessons! They are good! And each comes with a booklet with all the songs she teaches you on the DVD. I really love the gal's approach and encouragement to worship the Lord even as you are learning to play. I hope you will like them!
That Carpentry DVD sounds so neat. I will have to check that out.
Have a great day!
Libby
I'm so excited about my Show and Tell that I don't know what to comment on yours. :) But, I do appreciate you coming by a couple weeks ago. We were out of town last Friday, so I missed out. But, I hope to get back into the "swing" of things. :)
Thank you for the list of resources! I've been wondering about the CM book. What do you think of it?
Also, thank you for the link to the rhubarb juice. I'm not sure how I missed that! Probably the doctor's appointment that day, which was OK but made me mad anyhow. :)
