~ Show and Tell Friday ~ Some Of Our Delight Directed Studies This Year ~

    .

I wanted to share of some of the delight studies my boys will be doing in the near future.  I am very pleased to share them with you and it may inspire you to look into them or think of some of your own.

    .

My boys have wanted to learn how to carve just like their grandpa did.  So I am putting a extra effort into making this happen this year. ( Click on any of the pics and it will take you to where you can get them. )

    .

    .

I am very excited about this DVD.  My boys really want to learn how to make a real good fort and I really want them to get a hand at carpentry and this fit both wants and needs !

    .

Go to the site by clicking the graphic and look for the trailer.  It is sooooooo neat and a must see !

    .

Are you looking for good , wholesome, and God inspiring boy adventures ???  This is it !  It is Called Sugar Creek Gang Books.

    .

Here is a book for mama. [0=  You know all those habits that Charlotte Mason talks about training in our kids ?  This is a neat book that will guide you in this road.

    .

I can't afford to send my boys to music lessons and this was such a NEAT find !  I am going to be ordering the  four DVD set with the books.  I love that it is all centered around praising our Lord.

    .

     Well, I hope this was a fun post for you and may lead you into seeing product that you didn't know was there.  I can't wait to start ordering and start our delight directed studies...we won't be waiting for the fall to start. [0;

    .

    .

Now if you want to join us in the fun of Show and Tell Friday  just....

    .
~Make a Show and Tell Post and make sure it is wholesome.  It can be pretty much what ever you want to share.  It could be about you ...or your family ....or what is going on in your homeschooling.

~Some how link me ( Mary @ Raising 4 Godly Men or Canadagirl ) so others will know where to go to join S&T.

p.f.~Come back to me and let me know you posted your S&T by clicking on the Mister Linky Graphic and using your exact URL to your Show and Tell Post.   ( I need you  to tell me each week that you want to participate, okay ?  )

"If mothers could learn to do for themselves what they do for their children when these are overdone, we should have happier households. Let the mother go out to play! If she would have the courage to let everything go when life becomes too tense, and just take a day, or half a day, out in the fields, or with a favourite book, or in a picture gallery looking long and well at just two or three pictures, or in bed, without the children, life would go on far more happily for both children and parents. The mother would then be able to hold herself in "wise passiveness’ and would not fret her children by continual interference even of hand or eye - she would let them be." ...Charlotte Mason

These are fantastic finds, Mary! We can't afford music lessons either or sports. Sometimes I fret about that, but I figure if the Lord wants them to have them then He will provide. These books look like a great deal.

    Hi Mary,
What a GREAT selection for your sons - I'm sure grandpa would have been proud to see your boys walk in his footsteps with the carving. And a great fort - photo of their neat fort would make an excellent portfolio down the road.

Just wanted to let you know though that we have one of the Jean Wells (actually 2) dvds and so far it hasn't been an ideal experience for Anna. In the first dvd I think Ms. Wells assumes the student knows more than we did, and soon went to fast for Anna. It was quite frustrating. So then we got her new dvd for beginners/kids and it is really little-kidish. You may have a better experience with them than we did, but you might just want to order the first dvd and try it out first. Our guitar saga continued with a few lessons through community ed., and Anna did well and learnt some from the first 3 lessons, but then the instructor just kept repeating himself and she didn't learn anything new after that (sigh). So now I have resigned to the fact that she needs a real instructor for private or semi-private lessons, but too busy to check now. Maybe this fall I'll look into it. There isn't much in music teachers up here, so I may have to drive.

    Have a good day/weekend!!! ttyl

    Hi, Mary!

Thanks for sharing...hey, I'm interested in the guitar series. Our guitar teacher used to come to the house years back, but then he went and got married, and doesn't have time for lessons anymore. We have 3 guitars and no one plays them! I bought a worship guitar book, but it doesn't seem to have inspired the guys yet. Keep us posted on how these work for you all!

    Fun stuff!
It looks like you have some good plans for your guys.

We love the Sugar Creek Gang books. My folks got the whole set for my boys over the course of some Christmases and birthdays.

Looks really neat!!! When I have some extra money, I'll have to check into the guitar program. PC wants to learn the guitar, but we don't have the money for lessons. He has the guitar already, but no lessons.

Cool books. We can't do music lessons either. I bartered piano but the guitar was all self taught with books and video. Son 2 is an accomplished player. He has worked hard to learn the art and has purchased 4 guitars and all his own equipment. He plays at Sunday Morning worship, youth group worship and this summer as a worship leader at a local camp. So books and videos will work!
Two years ago our boys worked along side their dad in rebuilding the 100 year old front porch. They learned so much. Can't wait to see what your boys build!
I am very interested in the CM book. Will be looking for that one,
Em would probably read all the boy books! She loves the Hardy boys and mysteries.

    Hey Mary!
I actually have something to share this week! :) I messed up on Mr. Linky & it won't let me delete the first link. Sorry about that!
Anyway, so have your boys tried any projects from the carpentry DVD? It looks GREAT! I know my boys would love that.
We read one of the Sugar Creek Gang books in school this year & since then, I've "caught" them reading some of the others in the series. We really enjoyed it!
And I'll be checking out those guitar DVD's too! We have 4 guitars & Kenton's the only one that knows how to play. :)
    THanks for sharing!
    Love, Alyssa

How blessed are your boys to have such an inspirational mama! The art of wood carving, fort building, and Christian centered adventure books for boys are so wholesome, producing God fearing young men.
Blessings to you my friend in Christ,

    Jun. 20, 2009 - Great guitar DVDs!

    Posted by missionarymama
A friend of mine let me borrow her set of those same DVDs with Guitar lessons! They are good! And each comes with a booklet with all the songs she teaches you on the DVD. I really love the gal's approach and encouragement to worship the Lord even as you are learning to play. I hope you will like them!
That Carpentry DVD sounds so neat. I will have to check that out.
    Have a great day!

Thank you for the list of resources! I've been wondering about the CM book. What do you think of it?

Also, thank you for the link to the rhubarb juice. I'm not sure how I missed that! Probably the doctor's appointment that day, which was OK but made me mad anyhow. :)
