Oct. 15, 2009~ Show and Tell Friday ~ Apples, apples, apples ! ~
.
.
It has been a BIG year for apples and squash ! This last week we picked soooooooo many apples. We have had enough apples this year for eating, storing, drying, and.....juicing ! ((happy dance)) It has been a lot of work but boy is it worth it. I haven't had that much blogging time lately b/c homesteading calls. I can relate to the stories that Laura Ingalls Wilder would tell about her and Almanzo's life and what it was like to raise so much of their own food. I have had a huge education sence I have moved out into the country again. I didn't fully understand all that my mom did for us kids growning up. Don't get me wrong we helped but I can see as a parent how much you do and how much the kids help. All help is good help. I couldn't have gotten all the fruit in the last two weeks that we have if it wasn't for my MIL, the boys, and my hubby working along side me. PTL
I guess I wanted to Show and Tell how pretty the apples were on one of our dwarf apple trees. I am hoping to get a book that will help me take better and better pics with my digital camera over time. But the Picnik site I can't say how much I have enjoyed editing and giving my pics that extra edge.
Well if you have noticed the lack of my blogging now you know why. Till the end of November please understand that I am working hard on the homestead or getting ready for the craft fair on Nov. 20th and 21st. The count down is on !
.
Now, if you want to join us in the fun of Show and Tell Friday just....
. ~Make a Show and Tell Post and make sure it is wholesome. It can be pretty much what ever you want to share. It could be about you ...or your family ....or what is going on in your homeschooling.
~Some how link me ( Mary @ Raising 4 Godly Men or Canadagirl ) so others will know where to go to join S&T.
~Come back to me and let me know you posted your S&T by clicking on the MckLinky and using your exact URL to your Show and Tell Post. ( I need you to tell me each week that you want to participate, okay ? )

"If mothers could learn to do for themselves what they do for their children when these are overdone, we should have happier households. Let the mother go out to play!
If she would have the courage to let everything go when life becomes too tense, and just take a day, or half a day, out in the fields, or with a favourite book, or in
a picture gallery looking long and well at just two or three pictures, or in bed, without the children, life would go on far more happily for both children and parents.
The mother would then be able to hold herself in "wise passiveness’ and would not fret her children by continual interference even of hand or eye - she would let them
be." ...Charlotte Mason
The apples are beautiful! Such color. I just love the colors God puts together.
I do miss picking and canning and drying. It was sooooo much work. All the fabric of living on the farm. Applesauce, applebutter, cider, jelly, and my favorite apple crisp! And pie with cheese. I honestly remember eating apple pie and cheese for breakfast often.
Enjoy your apple cider, Mary! What a treat...we bought bags of apples from an orchard in Wisconsin last weekend. No time to pick them ourselves! We're off again today to Wisconsin, this time to our friends' family vacation home in Wyalusing, which is where the Mississippi and Wisconsin Rivers meet. It is gorgeous up there! (But not as beautiful as BC and the mountains...but compared to Chicago, almost anything looks gorgeous!)
I AM writing "I Wish I Could Go To A Farm" Part 6!!! It's longish, and needs lots of pics, so will take ma a little while. I don't know if I'll have internet access up where we're staying, so it may not be posted til Monday :-( But, if I can get online, I'll try and get it all done! Maybe I'll do the text in Word on the car ride north, and then just add the pics when I can get into photobucket!
You're apple tree looks so fruitful! As is your life in Him, my dear. Your priorities are correct...your family and your homestead come wayyy before your blog! It's always good to leave us "hungry" for more now and again! :-)
What a bountiful tree! What kind are they? I just love eating apples in season. This is such a good year for them. Maybe they like cooler weather? I hope you have a great weekend. We may go swimming to a nearby indoor pool tomorrow. Sunday we will celebrate my early birthday with family.
(((hugs)))
Jenn
You ARE a hard-worker, Mary! You do soooo much for your family and with your gardens. The words diligent and industrious come to my mind when I think about you.
You needn't apologize about blogging.
Your apples look yummy. If we ever get some land of our own, one of the first things I will do is plant an apple tree and a pear tree (my dc love pears).
Your trees are gorgeous. Ron planted 4 trees this year... so in 5 years or so, I will be spending my fall days doing apples too. Just getting the garden in was hard work. We didn't finish until this weekend. Ron and I cut all the onions and they are drying on screens -- well, in the garage. It isn't warm enough for the solar food dehydrator Ron built to work well yet. Besides, it has rained/snowed every day for weeks.

I have been recording our journey on my blog. Go to my links on The House That God Built and you will find it. I know God has a lot more instore for us and we just need to follow where our Lord takes us.
This blog is the home of Show and Tell Friday's and Tightwad Tuesdays. I hope you decide to join in on the fun !
Blessings and ((HUGS))
