Feb. 23, 2008~ BC Winter Games Results ~
This winter has been a growing experience for us in Curling. The boys came close but didn't win the two out of three games they needed to get to the finals on Sunday.
I am so proud they even made it to the BC Winter Games. My heart hurts for them. I want them to leave this event with hope in their eyes for the future. I see such a amazing team here. I see such a awesome team and I pray they keep their eyes to the heavens for HIS glory.
As my friend Bobbie said ..."as everyone watches how the "Christian/Homeschoolers" win, they are also watching how they don't win. May all they do bring God honor and in doing so honor their parents as well."
I plan to make a Curling Celebration Cake for them to come home to. I want them to know "HOW" proud we are of them. And I will take a pic of them in their BC Winter Game hoodies. The suviner (sp?) that we got them.
Thank you all for your words of encouragement and prayers. They ment soooooo much to the boys and us. It also makes the let down not be so hard knowing that there are such SS'sIC out their for us.
It has been snowing here again. I really do like snow. I love how white and bright it is and that is good for me mentally. I grew up in Kirkland Wa and it was different colours of gray or maybe sunny. Here is different depths ( meaning how many inches or centimeters) of white (snow). It is easier to send them out in the snow. I have to say we don't live in the part of Canada that gets extreamly cold. We are cold enough to have snow but not so cold you can't go out easily.
I have been easing back the boys into their lessons and it has been pretty good. I have to find a good scheduel and rhythum. My oldest was amazed at how much he had to re-learn and I told him that is why I take smaller holidays (breaks). That way we don't loose as much ground of what we had been learning.
I was very pleased when I was reading with my 2ds and his reading was better than I thought. I am looking at getting the home kit to help his cognitive learning skills but still haven't fully decided. I am also looking at getting a phonics program both are from The Brain Trainers.
I have found some real gems (books) for homeschool that I want to share REAL soon. I am hoping tomorrow.
I also have been squeezing in some knitting and beading in. Yesterday I got a check back from the local artist store that I sell my beaded work at. With that now I can invest in some real good tools for my wire work. I was so excited.
Well, as you can see I didn't have a pic for Wordless Wednesday. I guess you can say I wasn't wordless today.
I want to let you know of a real neat geography project that is going on over at Pam's. She and her son are exchanging post cards with others from other states and countries. I jumped at this chance to teach my boys geography in a FUN way !!!
"This would be a great way to get in geography, handwriting practice, and culture studies in a low cost way. And who doesn't like to get mail?
I will have my son place a small sticker on our world map and our US map for each country or state we receive. Any takers? Please leave a comment if you are interested."
I want to encourage you if you want to join in on the fun leave Pam and I a comment and lets get the ball rolling.
Evergreens symbolizes ...
growth and everlasting life.
If we trust in our Lord wholeheartedly ( our faith in our everlasting God and Lord and His saving grace) our faith should be evergreen in growing in HIS likeness.
Luke 2:52 and 2 Peter 3:17-18
We need to ask ourselves ...
"How can we grow in Jesus?"
" How did Jesus grow ? "
What are some specific ways "we" can grow in His example?
( Luke 2)
~Candles~
We are going to be talking about our homes should be aglow with light over the HOLYdays. ( and in our hearts) Jesus came as a light to the world. Every time we see HOLYday lights, we should think of Christ as our light. I pray this will bring joy in our hearts and BOLDNESS in our witness.
Dec. 10, 2007~ Live Nativity and Holiday Open House 2007 ~
Last night we went to a wonderful eve in town. Most of the local churches get together every year and put on Christmas on Bak*r Street. It is one of our family traditions every December.
They have people dressed up in the the Nativity story.
The Magi
Joseph, Mary, and baby Jesus
They had a area for the petting of the stable animals
Noah petting a lama
Noah riding the donkey
Nicolas getting his turn
This Christmas Tradition we do when circumstances allow. One year we didn't get to go because our van side door wouldn't stay on so we stayed home that year.
I love how this is a opportunity for someone to hopefully want to know more about our Savior. I pray for some to find out that Jesus didn't stay a baby but grew up and gave the most precious gift ever.... his life and our Salvation.
Other traditions we do are....
Making Cards Making Candles Lighting the Menorah
Making fudge( I make two other kinds too... a date fudge and a type of butterscotch fudge. I hope to show them this week)
We do so many other things. Like the first night putting up our tree ...we only put on lights and talk about Jesus being the light of the world. Then each night we put on a different "symbol of Christmas" ornament.
I plan to start tomorrow sharing a different Christmas symbol each day, starting tomorrow.
I try to take anything we do and let it tell a part of the story of Jesus' birth or about who he is.
We personally don't celebrate Santa Claus but we do tell the story of the real St. Nicholas. ( I hope to share on this in the next week or two too) I am not sure how many symbols I will be able to share about but I will do as much as I can in the next 3 weeks. We take the time to observe the 12 days of Christmas too. Extra days to share with the boys of who our Savior is.
Nov. 28, 2007~ Making Pointsettia Christmas Cards ~
Making Poinsettia Christmas Cards
First you cut your card stock out to proper sizes.
Here is the math in the lessons. Sorry I forgot to translate into inches. Hey there is a good lesson to work on with your kids. Translating metric to imperial.
just in case it is too blurry it is Black square 12x9 cm and white is 10x8cm .
Here is the card plus the two size squares to glue in layers.
First layer glued.
Busy gluing.
Now don't forget to have a very concentrated look.
I forgot to show you the boys stamping the card but we did.
Oh, btw for the scraps after cutting. You can use them too !
With a silver pen you can make gift tags ! I wish you could see the snow flakes better. My 3ds9 Noah made them.
These are projects I love. It was...Art, Language Arts, and Math ! Wow ! I hit 3 subjects with one project. YEAH !!! AND....we had FUN.
May. 28, 2006~ Sunday Reflection " A Moses of Homeschoolers" ~
I have heard over the years from people who don't want to homeschool their kids or can't fathom homeschooling because lack of patience . I look at my life and where I came from in my own education. For me to homeschool my boys hasn't been by my power but the Lords. God took a simple woman and put a desire in her to great things by His power and not because I had a great education or lots of money. No quite the opposite. Of course we are a one income family. My husband is a waiter so we are not rollin in the dough. But he is a good provider plus I really belive when we live for the Lord he honors those who really do try to follow him and he gives alot of "back door provisions" if you wait and watch. My dream home is a real testimony to that. If is weren't for God putting it on peoples heart to volenteer there time and put on peoples heart to give things like inside doors or wood floor paneling for a 100 square feet, which he just did this last week,we wouldn't have much of a house. I am not saying we approched people and told them our needs or wants. No, we have just given it up to the Lord for him to do what was needed. Our God is an awsome God and he does reighn. He took a person who had great learning challages like Moses' stuttering problem and look at what has been accomplished and it wasn' t by my power. I had a lot of learning challanges in my reading mainly. I had to go to special ed. of special ed. for reading. Every half of an hour I was tutored in my reading Mrs. Barry had to write two hours of reports to get support for the program I needed from the government, to help me read.I look back and I am sooooo thankful for the school Librarian ,Mr. Cook, and my parents. Mr Cook kept encouraging me and showing me good books to get me intrested in reading. Plus my daddy loved books and really valued books so much that he gave them as presents at Christmas. I look back and I think that is why I love reading and the reason I didn't give up. Now I am a very advent reader. I am also a book aholic. So if you have a sweet one who has more need of time in their reading and it is a bit challanging for them to read . "Don't give up" and get them the" Best Books" money can buy. Also read, read, read to them. Did I say read to them?I hope to keep up my Sunday Reflections , hopefully with more a devotional slant.
In Him,

I can't belive I forgot to mention Nature Study in my list of curriculum. I love Nature Study. This year I hope to take alot more Nature Walks and have us draw what we observe in God's big observatory. I would hope we can put in comments, poems, quotes, facts we observe, latin names to things, narration of what we observed in our Nature Notebooks. We have had alot of fun bird watching . I along with my children have learned the names of so many birds and to be able to just watch them , all their ways, and habits. We plan to use" Exporing Creation with Zoology 1: Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day" , plus "Night Science for Kids-exploring the world after dark" by...Terry Krautwurst. The E.C. with Zoology is writen with a Charlotte Mason Style.
I really encourage anyone who hasn't tried Nature Study , do it is so rewarding and satisfying.
