Posted in Creation Study
For the months of June, July and August we are going to be learning ALL about creation! Several people have asked recently what all we are doing...so I thought i would put it all in one place and then those that are interested can check my blog for links, books and such!
First of all, I purchased 106 Days of Creation Studies from simplycharlottemason.com. Here is the link to the study:
http://simplycharlottemason.com/books/creationstudies/
For $9.95 I got a TON of lesson ideas for this unit! I'm not going to be doing all 106 days, but picked and chose the lessons I thought would be most applicable to my children and their young ages. I would highly recommend this study to anyone who wants to learn more in detail about creation! This study from simplycharlottemason.com is excellent and has wonderful ideas to use for each day of creation! Because it is a Charlotte Mason based unit, there is journaling involved. Each child keeps a creation notebook and draws pictures throughout the study of different things that God created. At the end of the study there will literally be a notebook FULL of wonderful drawings that your child can save and use as a review. I'm excited about this aspect of our study! (I'm going to try and not type out the 106 lessons in TOO much detail, because I did purchase this unit, if you would like all the ideas you should go purchase the study for your family! Again, I think it's worth it!)
Here is a basic run down of what I'm going to be doing each week! There is also an overview in the study where you read all of Gen. 1 before beginning each specific day with your child. Also, it goes without saying that we are reading LOTS of good books from the library on EACH topic each week.
Also, one more note, some of the weeks I am splitting up - like Day 3 - we're doing a whole week on land and then a whole OTHER week on ocean!

*Talk about different kinds of light.
*Talk about shadows - looking outside for them as well!

Week 4 - Ocean
*I am doing a unit study I got as a freebie from Christian Cottage online a year or so ago on the ocean. I just looked and it is still FREE!! Yipee! So I can share that one with you as well! Scroll down a bit and you will see the Oceanography unit and you can click on it to download for free. There are some wonderful ideas in this one as well - for different age levels too, as well as book recommendations.

*A page about the moon:

*This site has EXCELLENT worksheets and ideas to use for different things. It is free to sign up, once you have joined, click on "themes" and then "space." You can print math sheets at your child's level, language and science lessons as well!
*There is also a mural for the wall, where you can print off the planets which have been made according to size, etc. We are going to do this as well!

*This is a good time to learn all about the human body if you have not done so!
*Magic School Bus Inside the Human Body
Magic School Bus Explores the Senses
FINALLY - Review
*As we go along each week I'd like to do a big mural on the wall, adding to it each week as we learn new things God created.
*Here is a creation mini-book that we may do as coloring pages as well.
http://www.dltk-bible.com/genesis/creation/book.htm
*Make sure you keep that creation journal/notebook going through the entire study. This will be a neat keepsake of your time studying creation together! A good way to go back and review as well.
