Mmmmm, something smells good!

Posted in Advent, Christmas

We made these applesauce cinnamon ornaments today! The house smells delicious! The kids kept asking to take bites of the dough...but I added glue to it, so no taste testing today!

Here is all you need for this simple craft! They say you can do it without the glue, but today our dough wasn't holding together, so I added in glue at the end of our mixing.

1 cup applesauce, 1 cup cinnamon, 1/2 cup glue --- or that's about what we did anyway!

Here are my kiddos enjoying making the ornaments!

And our sweet smelling ornaments ready to be baked at 250 degrees. Last year I didn't put them in the oven, and they took DAYS to dry out completely! But, I don't really like the oven option either, I'll have to keep researching to see what is best. They got all crispy on the top and under-cooked on the bottoms, and so they broke off when trying to get them off the pan. But, I think we were able to salvage most of them.

The finished product! Our house still smells so yummy!

Do you have a dehydrator? I bet that would do the trick.

Dec. 20, 2007 - cinnamon ornaments

I loved doing those cinnamon ornaments last year with my boys! We have to bake gluten-free unfortunately, but it did cause us to discover the wonders of PARCHMENT PAPER - nothing ever sticks to it. You might try using it for the ornaments next time for ease of removal. We may do the ornaments this weekend - can't wait for the house to smell all yummy!

We made these too. We didn't use the glue though. I baked mine for 1 hour at 170 degrees and then left them in the oven for at least 5 hours. Ours came off the pan very well. The only mishap we had was the cinnamon burns the boys got. I guess if you leave the cinnamon on too long it burns your skin.
