"Ahh, Mom, not alphabetical order!"

Do you hand your kids a sheet of paper with

a list of words on it, and tell them, "Put

all of these into alphabetical order."?

What kind of response do you get?

It was never a pretty one around here!

That was until we came up with "the cards".

I took an old set of "Charlie Brown" dictionaries

and cut out each entry. Most of the words

included a picture along with the definition.

I cleared the living room floor, handed the kids

the cards, and had them lay them out in alphabetical

order. They loved it! I loved it! It was a painless

way to teach alphabetical order.
