Wednesday, March 14, 2007 - Beware the Ides of March

Every year about this time I am ready for a break. I noticed a few years ago that by the end of February I do not really care anymore if anyone's math answers are right. I also don't care if we ever eat another meal. Or wear clean clothes. It is all just too much trouble.

One problem with homeschooling academically-inclined high schoolers is that you cannot just go all relaxed for long. If they want credit for completing course work, then the drudgery just has to be done. And, actually, I do not think there is anything really wrong with a certain amount of drudgery. I sure am hard-pressed to consider many household tasks anything else: why should schoolwork be different?

So we finally got smart and built in a week off in the spring... unfortunately, that week does not come for us till the week before Easter. The good news is by then the end will be in sight for the year as we finish in May. The bad news is holding on till then.

I think it's an Ides of March thing. Et tu, Ludusdomi? Maybe I should go stick a knife in the calc book...

I haven't been here for a while, so had to catch up on all the excitement at your home! I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one in a late winter malaise! (That's an awful big word; do you think I spelled it right?)
W admired the chess board birthday "cake." It looked extremely yummy!
We may have to re-name W as our own "Mr. Music." He is loving violin lessons and still working on the piano, even without official lessons.
I chuckled at the Spartan teddy bear carried home on his shield. What a great imagination! And who would have thought that a bunch of old dead guys would provide such fuel for his imagination. We've been making Greek shields this week, although they sort of morphed into super-hero shields. *sigh* You can lead them to water...
Finally, it doesn't seem so odd to love classic literature, but wandering the math aisle at the library? :)
