Sunday, May 6, 2007 - Feeling Adventurous?

Last week we were at Missions day. That always seems to get more than its share of food stories, which has inspired the new blog poll: What food would you really, really hate eating? Some contenders for me are:

sashimi: a little too fresh for my taste.

look like they forgot to cook it

sheep eyes: our missionary from Eritrea shares that these are a delicacy and a real sign of honor, which was offered to him. Being a quick thinker, he redirected them to the most senior man there as deserving the honor. Way to go!

too much honor for me

escargot: I wouldn't even like these fellows in my garden or aquarium, let alone my dinner plate...

frozen escargot from alwaysfreshfish. What does "fresh" mean?

tofurky: Now, this is less disgusting than some of the others, but still not on the list of things I'd like to try. I do wonder, though, if it comes with a little plastic wishbone. The whole thing about vegetarians recreating meals for carnivores fails to compute in my mind.

where's the bones?

cow tongue:  this was even prepared by the brave mom at 8kidlets.

I'll pass on this one...

haggis: 'nuff said.

please pass the shortbread

huhu grubs: though they may be high protein and all that, just can't picture this one.

some say they taste like peanut butter

Now I am back with two additions which are too late to be included in the blog poll. Miss Dog Lover reminded me of the disgustingess of baby octopi. Dear Husband is not planning to ever take us back to the local Chinese buffet with octopus stir fry.

yum

And then the local favorite: scrapple. I have actually eaten and enjoyed this one, but I don't know how.

straight from the swine farm

Add a banana!

hot dogs should be up there too. However, I'd much rather take the hot dogs. :P

And cow tongue is very good! (of course, I wasn't the one who had to boil and skin it. ;) )

And I have to laugh whenever I see Tofurky. Judah had a post about it on his blog a long time ago, and he, of course, being Judah, explained it very humorously. (I think his post was actually regarding his experiences in a health food store. I agreed with him that real turkey from real gobblers and real beef that was alive and walking around a little while ago tastes much better. *grins* )

My stomach was a little tender this morning. Don't know if I should have been looking at this. :oP
What about calamari? Do you eat that? I can't imagine eating something that resembles suction cups. Marina's much braver, she tried it at a friend's wedding, but she didn't like it.

Peace and Laughter,
Cristina

Sorry for any digestive disruptions this post may cause.

Sorry my cow tongue picture disappeared. I have replaced it.

And it looks like blogpoll is down for the count, hope they're back soon.

I gotta say, as disgusting as Tofurkey may be (being a carnivore, I've never tried it!), I don't think anything could compare to eating an eyeball! Tongue and grubs are a close second, though. John would eat the sashima for me! He has been known to eat such things. :)
Thanks so much for the birthday card (I don't know if it was you or opckid who actually sent it. And what's the story on "anyathecovenanter"?). It was a very nice surprise! :)

Wednesday, May 9, 2007 - Eritrea

This may be slightly off-topic (OK, has almost nothing to do with the topic), but have you heard any news from your missionary to Eritrea? One of our missionary couples to Eritrea was recently imprisoned and now (after being released) have been told they have to leave the country.

Seems like the country is really cracking down on the church. Scary -- just wondered if you had any news.

Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting -- come anytime!
