Jul. 2, 2007 - My Thorn in the Flesh
I don't know why it is, but I try to be everything to everybody. I am the type of person who wants to please everyone by being kind to them and showing them that I care, but all they do is stick their nose up and walk off! This has happened to me since I was 5 or 6, and it hasn't gotten any better, if not, worse.
I remember one time, I made an ice cream sundae for a friend, and all she could do was refuse it and let it melt on my side of the table. As my mom, stricken with compassion, helped me clean the sloppy mess, my best friend's dad said, "You know what I would do, Denise? I would let it melt and show her a lesson."
That was 6 years ago. I had just lost my grandmother to suicide a few weeks earlier! Did anyone see what I was trying to do? I was trying to be a friend in a very simple (and messy) way!
I lost 2 of my best friends when we left congregations. Now that we have left congregations, all I recieve is a cordial conversation when I just so happen to see them. It's no longer the kindred relationship like it once used to be. Talking about feeling hurt!
Another problem I'm facing is being denied as a friend on Myspace. It hurts, because, when you deny someone on Myspace, you're saying to them "You're really not my friend." It stings, and it's all my fault because I try too hard.
But I always seem to bounce back and recover quickly. When I'm down from my rejection, I think of all of my "less popular" friends who needs a friend more than anything. Although they might not really be my type, we have faced the same adversities of unpopularity and we rely on eachother's friendship more than anything; that's a wonderful foundation for a true friendship.
What am I trying to say? What I'm trying to say is: Be a friend. Don't stick your nose up at anyone. Of course, you don't want to associate with people who could cause you to sin in your daily Christian life, but you can be a positive influence to those who are swaying in the seas of sin. Or lonliness.

Once in a land of magic there dwelt an old sorcerer who desired a dragon to keep him company. But dragons were expensive in those days so the old sorcerer (by the name of Wynn) decided to go on a quest to capture a dragon and bring it to his home in the mountains.
He packed his belongings and a case of Pepsi and set off, humming the hit song I Was Made To Loaf. He hadn't gone far, when he came to a deep, deep, trench, streching as far as he could see to the left and right.
So Wynn opened his limited edition copy of “Simple Spells for the Stupefied Sorcerer” to page 142 and read the directions that were written there. He heeded them and after gulping down three cans of Pepsi (sugar was the one thing that calmed his nerves), belching twice and chanting a few magic words Wynn felt himself flying over the trench, well, half way over. Suddenly, he felt a powerfull force pushing down on him from above! That powerfull force was called gravity. After thirty seconds of falling, he began to wonder if he would ever land.then a dragon came out of nowhere and Wynn landed on the dragons back. The dragon hiked back to the top of the cliff but did not stop the dragon kept flying and flying.Wynn was asleep when the dragon landed so the dragon set Wynn on the ground. Wynn woke up with a terible pain in his head. Reaching up with his hand he felt blood and winced. For when he was falling, a rock had hit his head. When he sat up to get his bearings he saw the dragon that had saved him dozing peacefuly a few meters away. Wynn sat for a long time trying to decide what to do. he could run away from the dragon and try to find another dragon to keep him company or he could try to persuade this one to come home with him and be his companion. Wynn was still deciding what to do when the dragon started to wake fro his peaceful slumber.
Then, it struck him. He could go to the land of Shimmering Isles and visit the Dragon Guardian, Lemösia, and ask the guardian to permit him as a caretaker of an orphaned dragon. That way, he could choose which dragon best suited his needs and abilities.
