Today for Good Friday we made hot cross buns, read Easter stories, worked together to clean house and made our Easter meal plans together. There are many recipes for hot cross buns out there, we used the one from the Five in a Row Holiday Book, and they are rising as we speak, they should be done in just enough time for tea! Yummy!
The books we read today are: Miz Fannie Mae's Fine New Easter Hat by Melissa Milich and The Legend of the Easter Egg by Lori Walburg (my all time favorite because it touches on so many Lenten traditions and also tells about the resurrection, it's just wonderful!). Tomorrow we plan to read If Jesus Came To My House by Joan Gale Thomas, The Tale of Three Trees by Angela Ewell Hunt, and A Child's Story of Easter by Etta Wilson. We also made a cute craft from the FIve in a Row book too, here's a picture:

We used the egg shell halves from our buns, colored some cotton balls yellow with markers, used a hole punch and black construction paper for eyes and cut some beaks from orange paper. Glue one cotton ball into the egg shell half, glue another on top and glue on the eyes and beak to make the features on the chick. So easy my 2 year old could do it and very cute all together in a basket. I used this nice Avon ceramic basket my Mom gave me for my birthday one year but any basket will do. It was fun!
Gregg, Hunter and I may watch The Passion tonight. I've never been able to watch it all the way through, it's just so difficult, but I'll try again this year.
Happy Easter to all of you! |
