Takin' it one day at a time

Jan. 15, 2008

I decided in January that I would begin reading the bible at the beginning and read it through this year.  I bought a bible from a friend who owns a Christan Book store.  I bought a brand new highlighter.  Another friend gave me a beautifully decorated journal.  I was probably more excited about getting ready than actually reading.

God has, in just 15 days, revealed himself in a great and mighty way to me.  I look forward to it, anticipate it, talk about it with my family and friends.  I pray that God will help me stay encouraged and excited about reading.  But it is also raising some questions that I didn't anticipate.

Who was Cain's wife?  Who were her parents?  Did God create other people during Adam and Eve's time that we don't have a written account of?

At what point did it become wrong to marry many women and have children with them and their maidservants?

These things don't shake the foundation of my faith, but they do make me wonder?  But they also make me realize that God never intended for me to understand everything.  I heard someone say once "If God was small enough for me to understand he wouldn't be big enough for me to worship"

Menu Plan Monday

It's amazing how helpful it is for me to write out a menu plan.  Even the weeks that I have it 'written' in my brain, it never really works out like my list looks.  Last week was so much less stressful since I had a plan!  And all weekend I was planning out this week.  I cleaned out the freezer and so that helped me come up with a lot of ideas.

Monday-   Crockpot beef stew over rice with mixed veggies
Tuesday-   Roast turkey, green beans and baked sweet potatos
Wednesday-   eat at church
Thursday-   eggs and bacon, toast or biscuits (breakfast supper is a family favorite! )
Friday-   hotdogs and french fries

What are you STILL doing....

Found this list from antique mommy and thought it was worth sharing my 'stills'

Still amazed: that God loves me in the midst of my sin

Still getting used to: people treating me as if I’m like, 40 or something….oh yeah, I am 40!

Still loving: my husband

Still proud of: seeing my children doing something kind and Christ like

Still not proud of: how often I yell at my children

Still hoping: to live in our house one day

Still worried: that Hilary Clinton will be president

Still never going to: get a tattoo

Still pretending: with my kids, but not often enough

Still reading: as often as I can

Still wanting to read: the bible all the way through

Still interested in: photography

Still not interested in: anything science fiction

Still looking forward to: another year of family memories

Still not looking forward to: gynecology visits

Still failing: to praise Him in ALL situations

Still grateful for: hope

Still praying: daily for my children

Still not believing in: racism for any reason

Still believing in: God

What are YOU still doing?

Happy New Year, what's that all about?

My daughter and I had this conversation tonight.

Daughter:  What's Happy New Year mean, mama?
Me:  Well, we will begin another new year tomorrow.  The number of the year will change from 2007 to 2008.  That means that it's been two thousand and eight years since Jesus was born.  And each year has 365 days in it.  So tomorrow we will start over with day 1 and it will be 2008.
( I could tell I was loosing her interest pretty fast....)
Daughter:  Well, is it going to get more funner?

I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Happy New Year everyone!

Blogging once again

I've decided to try my hand at blogging once again.  I found this online bible study by way of boomama and I think I'm going to participate.  You read through the bible chronologically in a year.  I've never read through the bible so I'm looking forward to it.  But it will also be a challenge to stay committed. Check it out if you're interested!

I also want to have some lesson plans in place when we start school on Jan. 3rd.  I spend way too many days flying by the seat of my pants!  I don't feel so overwhelmed when I have a plan.

My kids each had a friend spend the night this past Thursday.  Friday morning around 10 my daughter came in the kitchen and said "Mama Natalie and I are hungry.  We're ready for the guest snack.  You know, we always have a guest snack when we have guests.  We're going to set up my doll house while you cook the guest snack.  Just call us when it's ready."  You just never know what they're going to say next!

About Me

God said homeschool and I said "Who me?" So, I'm trying to trust in Him with all my heart and not lean on my understanding. And acknowledge Him in all my ways and trust that He will direct my paths.
