The Art of Being Home

Posted in Around the House

Hello!  I feel as though I've been gone for ages!  Sad to say that my posts may be more sporadic from now on as I'm feeling called to spend more time being home while at home.  Does that make sense?  When I'm home, I feel the need to do more, be more, and concentrate more on home and hearth and education, and less on frittering away my time by sitting in front of the computer or chatting on the phone.  I rarely get the things done I want to get done, such as crocheting (I'm teaching myself how, lol), cross-stitching, baking, in-depth studies with my boys, etc.  Instead I get caught up in my day being distracted and wish I could just have one more hour, or one more minute! to get things done.

So, my computer time is going to be severely limited, my phones shut off during the day, and I'm headed outside to begin a container garden with my boys, walk more, talk more (with my children instead of my girlfriends), play games more, and live more.  I will still be blogging (I just can't seem to give up the friends I've made!), but there just may be a little more time between entries.  We do what we can, and at the end of the day, we are held accountable.

On a completely unrelated note, I will be slowly redecorating my blog, so thanks in advance for your patience. :)

This came across my desk within the last week, and inspired me to think about what I truly want my children to take away from their childhoods, and what I want out of my life:

“A roof to keep out the rain? Four walls to keep out the wind? Floors to keep out the cold? Yes, but home is more than that. It is the laugh of a baby, the song of a mother, the strength of a father, warmth of loving hearts, lights from happy eyes, kindness, loyalty, comradeship. Home is first school and first church for young ones, where they learn what is right, what is good, and what is kind, where they go for comfort when they are hurt or sick; where joy is shared and sorrow eased; where fathers and mothers are respected and loved, where children are wanted; where the simplest food is good enough for kings because it is earned; where money is not as important as loving-kindness; where even the tea kettle sings from happiness. That is home. God bless it!”

Have a wonderful week!!

Totally understandable. I've had to limit my time also. I know your family will be blessed by having more of mom. Enjoy your family.

Jan. 17, 2007 - I've missed your posts...

...but good for you. I also have been convicted about spending time blogging when I ought to be doing other things (usually sleeping!), but have yet to make any real decisions about it. I need to. I haven't yet decided whether having a blog has been more beneficial or more detrimental overall, but it's definitely sucked up some time that could have been better spent elsewhere.

Well, one of those rare times when you ARE surfing the blogs, stop by mine again and say hello.

I understand completely - I mean, when your kids grow up, you're not going to wish you'd spent more time blogging! I used to know how to crochet and plan on learning again with my daughter when she's a bit older. I bought a hook just the other day for inspiration. Our Chia pets are sprouting like mad, it's been fun for the kids to be responsible for watering them. I hope you enjoy your extra time with your boys and all the other things you are looking forward to doing. And I'll just enjoy your blogs when you have time to write. Have fun! Until your next blog ...

Your friend, Kate

About that Parental Communication Deficiency Disorder thing that we share....
Whew! Now I can justify the time I spent blogging, because something I said was a blessing to someone else. :-D That "ugly underwear" post of mine would have been perfectly fine without my adding that "confession". But I knew when I started my blog that I wanted to be willing, when opportunities arose, to share honestly some of my shortcomings in hopes that others might find common ground. So often I feel that I must be the ONLY homeschool mom (or mom, period!) out there who is... or who isn't... or who does... or who doesn't... Yet deep down I know there must be others out there who feel exactly the same way! We all need to know from time to time that we are not alone in our particular areas of struggle. That Perfect Mom really doesn't exist... does she? Anyway, THANKS for your comment! It is good to know that the time I spend blogging isn't totally wasted! :-) Altho I suppose I could be using this time to better my interfamily communication skills....

Shani,
That makes perfect sense. I get that nudging too when I'm spending too much time on the computer or whatever. Totally understandable!
